Hey, welcome! :D How did you find your first term of Year 12?

Crazy how the end of school creeps up so quickly. Do you have any thoughts about what you want to do after at the moment (such a typical question haha)?

Hi everyone! Thank you for such nice messages!
I am currently doing six subjects which include:
  • Advanced English
    Mathematics
    Ancient History
    Studies of Religion 1U
    Visual Arts
    Engineering Studies
After high school I plan on getting a job, hopefully a traineeship at an Architecture/Engineering firm *Fingers crossed* for a gap year. After that, I hope to go to University of Newcastle. It's pretty much my dream Uni. I want to work really hard to get the ATAR I want. To be honest I have no idea whats waiting for me at the end of this year. It's as if I am going to be wandering off into the unknown!

I know I literally just posted about stuff 10 mins ago but I want to talk about my Visual art major. On Monday, we have to talk to the art staff about our concept and what we are doing. I have things to talk about but I'm not sure how to link the artwork to it especially since I'm doing two sculptures of different things. I have plenty of ideas but I have no idea how to pull it off.

I feel like I wasted term 1 of art and didn't do as much as I should have done. Though, I can say that most people in my class don't know their concept yet and have no idea what to do. I'm glad I've started but I worry I won't have enough time.

I also want to pull up my theory marks especially for exams. Anyone know how to do that? I guess knowing your artists and artworks but how can I go into more depth and learn more about conceptual framework, the frames etc.? We have half yearlies in the last two weeks of this term so I've got a good 9 weeks to learn things.

Oh and I really want to get a band 6 in art or ancient history (I got a 21.5/25 for my term 1 test. I was super happy but I still want to improve)

Welcome to the Class of 2018! It's great to see more Year 12s getting into this Journey Journal thing. Good luck for this year, I hope you find this year to be a good experience, fun and interesting. Remember to make the most of this community here on AN, its a great place to go through the years of schooling in. The subjects you are doing look interesting, and seem pretty similar to what I'm doing in VCE! Again, good luck for the coming year, keep stepping out into the unknown! :D
2017-2018: VCE
Methods | Specialist | Physics | Chemistry | English | Texts and Traditions

2019: B. Eng (Hons) | Monash

Yay finally another Visual Arts student on AN woop woop ;D ;)!

What concept do you plan on doing for your major? I can help you with linking your concept with your medium if you want :)

It's completely fine if you felt that you've done nothing during term 1. In my term 1, all I had done was my BOW proposal and a painting that didn't even end up in my final submission. I didn't even do anything during the summer holidays. I know girls from my school who finished their BOW the night before the due date but even managed to grab a Band 6. I'm not saying you should do this (it's not a good habit), but it's always best to start early. At this point on, it's just all about getting on with your BOW. Term two is pretty much the term where you should be doing most of your BOW because the term with the least amount of work compared with other terms.

As for theory, the key to nailing section 1 is putting yourself under time pressure. When writing your analysis for section 1, you don't have time to have second doubts. Your interpretation should flow smoothly from one sentence to another. But also you need to differentiate the frames, conceptual framework and practice questions in order to get top marks. Once you have deduced which question is what, this definitely makes it easier for you to analyse each work. Whilst for section 2, the key to getting top marks is KNOWING YOUR FACTS! Know what time period your work is from. Why the artist did that in the first place? What historical/cultural influences impacted their artwork? There needs to be a running theme between your 3/4/5/6 chosen artists. I did the same artists for my half yearlies, trials and my HSC (Picasso, Duchamp, ORLAN and Hirst). The common factor that brought them together was that they appropriated a found object in their work and developed its purpose throughout the years. What artists do you plan on doing?

I believe it's worth giving the VA Resource Thread a quick read! ;D

Good luck!

I just read beatroot's Visual art major work story and it was so inspiring. I will definitely be referring back to it when I am stressed and need motivation to do my major. I am definitely motivated to go do my other school work too. It had certainly put a smile on my face  ;D
Thank you so much!
@beatroot I will definitely be going to see your artwork at Orange Regional Gallery!

So I had my major artwork proposal this afternoon and it went amazingly! The teachers loved  what I'd done so far and think that it really could develop into sometime really good. I think I will take on their advice and try to make it seem really good! I wonder what mark they're going to give me...  :) I have a double study tomorrow and am going to go to the art room to work on my major where my friends wont distract me.

I also had English, Engineering, Ancient and Math today. I was soooo not in it for sixth period math, I didn't know I would be so tired today. Whats going on? It seems that when I get through a day I am always so tired and go to bed early but am still tired. My mum thinks its because I'm low in iron (I haven't been eating much meat lately. Too expensive!).

In English we were doing past HSC questions in times (5 minutes, 7.5 minutes and 15 minutes) for short answer. The first part of the paper were fine but once we got to the 3 marker questions, the questions got really broad and I found it hard to answer them. I feel like I am so much better at doing essays and creative writing. Short answer boggles my mind. Plus this was period one right after role call so I don't really know what I was feeling. Tired? Yes.

As always Ancient is always interesting. My teacher is really interesting and I look forward to going to it every day. I find I am more of a oral learner and my ancient teacher does a lot of talking and I just absorb it. Only for this subject though...? For engineering our teacher talks a lot too and it's much harder to get the content. Maybe it's because I am genuinely interested in Ancient and only a little for engineering. See I'm even putting Ancient in capitals and engineering not.   ;D

All in all, today was not only tiring but pretty hard. I went to school at 8am to get my art stuff in the class and stayed till 4pm for my interview meaning I had to get picked up. It sucks not having my P's in year 12 but hopefully in the May/June/July period I will get them! I'm only turning 17 this month and I got my L's in May (Whoops!). I live in a country town so theirs only certain buses and certain times I can catch them. No trains here... (Although that would be really useful)

I don't know why but I felt like I did too much schoolwork on the weekend which tired me out or something. I feel like I should balance my time better but I dunno how. Help! :-\

I should really go do my math homework now... Okay! Bye!  :P

Aw, you should definitely be eating more. Saves you in the long run, especially with exam periods coming :)

Oh, I've always found the short answers to be the easiest part of the paper. Is it because you can't synthesise on the spot? Also, I feel as if broad questions are actually easier to write to, because there's so much you can actually dive into - I always struggle with creative writing (hehe, I'm more of an analyst than a creator, I guess :P)

Looking forward to your artwork though aye
