I had a small "binder" (the plastic ones with plastic pockets that have like 30 holes) for each subject. Good because A4 books fit into the plastic sleeves and worksheets also fit. On the monetary side, they are cheap and refill plastic pockets are also cheap and readily available :)

Also, I never took textbooks home. Too heavy + I had pdfs of all of them that I accessed from an offline comp (to avoid any distractions).

This is a bit random, but get yourself a comfy chair when studying, it can make a world of difference. :)

GOOD LUCK!

I am starting up my unit 3/4 classes now and i was wondering what you people think is the best way to organise your books/stationery etc..

For this year mine was just piles on the floor for each subject in two rows (5 across for 5 subjects), i.e. the textbook in the top row, the workbooks and all the sheets/handouts in the bottom row. Gives you a nice visualisation of "what you have in front of you" to do. And then you can't forget anything. Also when I came home from school I'd put the stuff that had to be done on my bed, so that I couldn't go to sleep with doing it, because I would have to move it, and then feel guilty.

Keep in mind that the way you orgainse things is going to help you work more efficiently, but you still have to do the effort for results to show. (there is no point in having the most efficient econimical car (i.e. lets say a prius) if you don't use it (putting the work in) (end rant against celebrities). Remember work hard, but work efficiently.

Thanks guys, i think i will go with your method pi, i just have to make sure the books i buy will fit in the plastic pockets.
Can you tell me the brands of your folders/books??

For this year mine was just piles on the floor for each subject in two rows (5 across for 5 subjects)

Sounds good. This will be implemented.

Keep in mind that the way you orgainse things is going to help you work more efficiently, but you still have to do the effort for results to show.

Yeah effort isn't an issue, especially considering how much i enjoy maths homework maths in general coupled with my subjects for next year (Eng, Spesh, Methods, Physics, hopefully UMEP maths). Just reading that makes me aroused....   :P

This is a bit random, but get yourself a comfy chair when studying, it can make a world of difference.

Haha i quite literally got an amazing new chair and desk about 3 days ago. Bring it on yr12.

I also have a binder folder thing for each subject. I think I bought them at Officeworks when they had their back to school sale.

I pretty much exclusively use looseleaf paper - I don't bother with exercise books. I always find I use up an exercise book, but I can always keep stocked up on looseleaf. I guess you might have a problem of losing pages (that's what the binders are for), but I find it more convenient. You can keep handouts and stuff in plastic pockets like pi mentioned.

The brands I get is whatever is cheapest really - they're nearly always the same quality anyway.

I never paid much attention to organization, I just find that for me personally, things just sort themselves out naturally! I use looseleaf, as it means I don't have to carry much more than just paper and pens to a lot of my classes, textbooks as well if necessary, I usually have piles at home which I just chuck all my loose leaf into when I get home, I just clip them with a bulldog clip and make sure everything stays in place, all my books would just be on my bookshelf, which I proudly built myself with wood I bought from Bunnings! (cost me like $20)!! and keeps all my books! :D

I think that organisation isnt a great issue! I used an excel spreadsheet to keep track of all my important dates, that worked well for me, never used my school diary! ;D in terms of stationary, I just have a bunch of pens on my table, I use whichever I happen to pick up ;D

I say it depends on the subject - for maths and chem, my teachers gave us fill-in sheets for our notes, so I used display folders (the kind pi was trying to describe) for those. For maths and science subjects, I would recommend getting exercise books to do textbook questions. For a subject like English, you're less likely to need a notebook, but again, that varies depending on what your teacher prefers. My other subject was French, for which I needed multiple exercise books and folders, there's always lots of handouts and notes.

Tl;Dr an exercise book/display folder combo will serve you well for most subjects. Avoid bulky folders if possible.

At home, I installed two big wall shelves above my desk for all my books and miscellania, in piles and magazine files, depending. I also have a huge bookcase which is over-filled.

Honestly, you are probably over thinking it. There is no secret combination of organising your stationery that will improve your grades. Go with whatever you think works for you.

Wholeheartedly agree with burbs, there's no one size fits all solution. Just use common sense, pick what works for you and your subjects. Real life calls for autonomy and creativity - do whatever works

Edit: I remember what it was like in year 7, everyone had the same books and folders for every subject because they bought it all straight off the booklist. Later I decided binders were too bulky and annoying, but I have friends who love them. Each to their own.

Just get a few exercise books for maths/science for homework questions and a display folder to chuck your worksheets/notes etc in.
For english i used a display folder with loose leaf slipped into a few of the pockets. :P saves me from carrying aruond a massive folder lol

Throughout vce i just used exercise books, loose leaf and display folders! Stuff folders and all that other fancy crap. I agree with burbs just do what works for you!
