Inequality and discrimination DP

Hey ppl,
Im having a bit of trouble with inequality and discrimination and was just wondering if any of you have any flow charts or have notes on this area that impact health status.

Any help is much appreciated :)

Hey!

If you have the Jacaranda textbook, have a read from page 375.
Have a look at how racial discrimination, religion, sex (including FGM and forced marriage), sexual orientation and gender identity all impact on health status.
For this dot point, I'd recommend knowing what each of the 'factors' above mean - you don't need to know them word for word. It can help you to explain them better if you know what, say, discrimination, is.

Here's an example:
- Racial discrimination - when a person is treated less favourably than another person in a similar situation because of their race, colour, descent, national or ethnic origin or immigrant status. For instance, ethnic minorities like the Rohingya people who were forced to flee Myanmar and live as refugees.
- Impact on health status: Taking the example of ethnic minorities in general, they can often be marginalised in society leading to social exclusion. Social exclusion can make it difficult for one to access healthcare due to cultural barriers, including preventative healthcare, therefore increasing their likelihood of experiencing YLL due to communicable diseases, like diarrhoeal diseases.
