Hi, I've never posted before so hopefully this is okay. I was hoping to get some advice or info or anything on what I should do about changing course/uni
I'm currently doing first year Global Studies at Monash Clayton, specialising in International Relations. IR is definitely my passion and I'd love to pursue a career in it, but the course definitely isn't for me - I can't stand the compulsory units, and apart from those units it's the same as a normal Arts degree. So I'm considering a few different things
1. Arts at Monash - not much difference to what I'm doing now, just without the annoying compulsory units, and I'd have more room to study other things like politics units, philosophy etc.
2. Law/Arts at Monash - same as above, and I feel like Law, while not necessary could still really help with pursuing a career in IR stuff. I'm not as passionate about Law as i am IR but really enjoyed doing it in high school and having conversations with my friends in Law it sounds like I would enjoy it, though I know it'd be a lot more work. I'm doing fairly well so far but definitely don't have 100% confidence that I'd be able to get in, however, since internal transfers to Law are really competitive.
3. Bachelor of IR at ANU - This course sounds really amazing and ANU is ranked really well for politics and IR, as well as having the most employable graduates. If it was in Melbourne I'd take it in a heartbeat, but I'm not too sure about moving interstate. I'm living on campus at Monash now because I'm from rural Victoria, so the moving part isn't too much of a worry. But I would be really far away from family and friends, and Canberra doesn't seem like the most exciting place to live, though I did think it was nice to visit when I went there a few years ago.
4. Law/Arts somewhere else - if I don't do quite well enough to get into it at Monash, I think I can get into most of the other Unis that offer it in Melbourne on ATAR (since RMIT and UniMelb don't have undergrad law).
If anyone has any advice or thoughts I would love to hear them as I'm totally lost on what to do right now!! I'd especially love to hear from anyone who's at ANU about what it's like. Thanks
