Dancing with MHS... uh I hope not! I don’t think we do, but there is a small possibility since we have most other after school clubs with them

Hey, I kinda stumbled upon this post by accident
I'm a current Mac.Robbian and congrats on making it in! (Well I'm assuming by just that one post)
Don't worry, we don't have to dance with mhs; it's entirely optional and we don't have most after school clubs with them
Honestly, it's mostly just special occasions and events involving mhs and most people make friends with them through Instagram, guys from their previous school that got in or having friends from the trains

Hah honestly same lol

All good haha

I remember being a year 8 and looking forward to coming to Macrob but also being pretty intimidated since I didn't know what to expect. I had heaps of questions back then so I just wanted to make a list of potentially helpful info

1. We barely ever have to do compulsory school activity joined with mhs
2. I'm pretty sure you know this already but the classes in Macrob are organized by what language you pick. Let's say you and your best friend both get in; if you want to be in the same class then you both have to pick the same language. Even if you both pick French (for example), you might still end up in a different class. The only way to basically ensure that you will get in the same class is by picking Indo since only a minority pick that. If you want to ask about Indo or Jap at Macrob, I can answer since I did Indo last year and switched into Jap this year.
3. Our facilities are umm...I'm just gonna leave it at that
4. Macrob focuses a lot on Music. Even if you're not musically inclined, you may have to be apart of some kind of event. There's a lot of extra-curricular involvement which I urge people to participate (DO MUSIC GUYS NO BIAS OR ANYTHING...)
5. We complain a lot about mhs even though our curriculum as a whole is better than theirs and we have a lot more advantages and freedom than they do
6. There is an accel math program that you will get to try for. In Year 9, you will skip Year 9 Maths and do Year 10 instead. Essentially, you will be following the same curriculum as the year ahead. You will have to do Methods 1/2 in Year 10. This will give you the option to complete 3/4 in Year 11 or 12 (but you cannot repeat 1/2's in Macrob)
7. The general cohort in Macrob is very nice and friendly. Everyone is pretty different so it may take you a while to form your own group of friends. Generally, from what I observed is that in Year 9, forms stick together. In Year 10, these groups segregate and eventually split off into different friendship groups. This is because in Year 9, all of your subject apart from electives are with your form whereas in Year 10, every class is a mix of forms
8. People in Macrob talk about VCE a lot, esp once you get to Year 10
9. Macrob has a lot, and I mean A LOT of leadership positions available. These range from Form Captain to Music Captain. Since the number of students that apply for these positions are high, I again urge people to take extra-curricular activities (music, music, music, though I'm low-key high-key biased). I currently have one and I would also say don't do it for the badge. It actually is a lot of work and if you genuinely want to contribute because you're passionate about it, then do it. It requires commitment, liking coming to school on school-free days to help out
10. To make mhs friends, I think the best way is to get introduced by your other friends. I mean they aren't necessary. Adding on, mhs culture is quite different from Macrob. Since Macrob is more polite, mhs is more direct and they like joking around in ways we can't comprehend. They can also appear as a bit rough but those are just the differences in behavior. I actually have some friends who I talk to and message daily.
11. The Macrob environment isn't very competitive, contrasting the stereotypes. People just try to compete against themselves
12. In Year 9, you may develop some serious procrastination habits (like me). This is kind of inevitable so I recommend trying to get back on your feet in Year 10
13. You may not get your first preferences for electives. It shouldn't be a big deal though. Most of it depends on whether classes have enough people interested to run.

I'm not quite sure if the elective forms have been sent out yet since all of my Class of 2023 friends who tried out unfortunately didn't make it in. I'm happy to answer questions about electives as well

If you have any questions you can just message or PM me. Good luck, guys! Hope to see you guys next year : )

PS: Say hi to me if you see me around next year. I will be that short year 11 music girl that plays double bass and spends most of her lunch time either in the lockers or doing something in L3 (L3 is the most beautiful place in Macrob aka the music floor)

Thanks for the help! Also I'm unable to come to the orientation day, SoO, I hope I'm not a lonely fuck (sorry language) because everyone would have formed their friend groups and I'll be sad and lonely. And I'll be the confused one asking all the questions which were answered on orientation. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Thank you! You guys are too nice, hahah I can just imagine myself, 'everyone go to ur house group for a house meeting' the teacher says on the first day. Everyone knows their house (from orientation) and goes to it, then there's me, panicking and awkwardly standing not where to go.
And I would appreciate it if u did post most of wat u learned on orientation, doesn't have to be everything.  :) :D

No problem, but the exams for yr 10 entry will be different to yr9 entry in terms of actual questions and difficulty. Although, the format and structure of the test will be the same if you understand what I’m saying. The exam to get in to yr 10 is usually on a different day as well, and there are fewer spots available. Good luck!
Yes I agree with @arshia01, for example the mathematics, verbal reasoning will still have 60 questions and you have to do it in 30 mins. The reading comprehension and numerical reasoning tests will consist of 50 questions and you need to do it in 30 mins. But the difference will be that the difficulty will be much higher... but anyways GOOD LUCK!
I hope you get in!
Btw read this page on the macrob website, it should answer your question (https://www.macrob.vic.edu.au/enrolment-information.html)
Hope that helped :))
Ps- is anyone who got into macrob for next year doing the accelerated math exam? I am and I’m terrified ughhhhh....

Hello! Yes, me and weirdobtsarmy will definitely tell you as much as we can, if you don't want to talk specifically on this thread i'm totally fine with you pm me or whatever you would like. If you want, you can tell us your name, buts as weirdobtsarmy said don't feel like you have to, whatever you feel comfortable with. Don't hesitate to pm if you have anything else you'd like to talk about, enjoy the school holidays!
Hi! You guys can ask if you want to, but if you guys don't remember or something. It's completely fine with me!  Because, unless one of u are in the same class as me, I doubt that every teacher would have every student, their class and house group memorised, Hahahah. I would post my name here or pm, if you guys do the same thing? Don't feel like u need too, like the two of u said whatever you are comfortable with.  ;D :)
Enjoy the school holidays everyone  :) :D ;D

I'm doing the accelerated math exam! I'm super terrified too, at least we get to skip out on some of school! To do more tests   :'( :'(
The whole accelerated class would probably be very scary and stressful for my tiny heart. So, I don't know if I wanna get in.

Hey guys! Im also going to macrob next year…. Im doing indo next year so there is no way I will be in the same class as any of you guys. Looking back I kinda wish I chose french but Im dropping it in year 10 anyway because I will be doing external italian classes. I am Italian (probs gonna be the only non asian at macrob no offense) so my parents want me to learn the language and do it in VCE. Ah well. I am doing the accelerated maths exam too.. but probs not going to get in. I didnt even get a superior (in maths) on the exam soo. Mostly doing it for the experience and also just to see inside the school as I didnt go on the tours. I live about 1 hour away from the school but I guess that is kinda average. What electives did you guys choose?

Ah hello! Good to see another person on this thread, welcome!. For next year's electives i'm gonna be doing french, coding, engineering and a few others, but i think i'll be doing the test for accel maths too... fingers crossed it all goes well. What electives are you doing? And dw, i didn't go on the school tour either, i don't think we missed too much.
My chosen electives are Baker's Delight, Engineering: Creating Tomorrow, Astrobiology, Discovering Melbourne and German!
Though I doubt I'll get all of my first choices for electives chosen since I got in by PD.  :( PS, don't worry about the accel math test, I'm sure everyone will do fine :)))))

Im doing creative writing, astrobiology, textiles, music performance (I play piano) and Indonesian... I get so stressed out about exams... and this maths one is no different. Even tho I probably wont get in it would be pretty cool to do 3/4 methods in Year 11
