hey guys, after receiving a devastating umat score which will not get me an interview at any uni, what are my next best options considering my predicted ATAR is supposedly around 96-97?
Cheers!

Obviously depends on a number of factors such as your GPA and GAMSAT score. Then it goes onto interview performance.
If you want a very rough estimate, UoM claims that 1/3 of their biomedicine students gain a spot in MD.
2018: ATAR: 99.35
Subjects
English: 44
Methods: 43
Further Maths: 50
Chemistry: 46
Legal: 40
2019: Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine @ Monash

yeah of course, many factors contribute. But how may biomed students do biomed with the intention on getting into MD?

I would suspect a very high proportion do. I am not too knowledgeable on this, but job prospects following doing Biomed are often said to be quite dismal so many people do Biomed as a undergrad to later get into medicine or dentistry.

Maybe that was the case when biomed had a higher ATAR cut off and smaller cohort, but now there are almost 1000 students doing biomed and most of them want to do med, so your chances aren’t great.

Is the Biomed cohort at UoM actually that big? I heard it was like 400 or something

depends on which year it is. I know it used to be only 450 students only a couple years ago and yes ~150 got into MD @ UoM and possibly others got in elsewhere.

It used to be quite a prestigous course at UoM but cutoffs have dropped recently and thus the cohort size has doubled so the percentage which get's into dent/law/med etc will be lowered.
