Changes to the VCAA Mathematics Study Design for 2020

What is this thread for?
Thought it may be useful to take note of the changes to the study design. If you would like to add/edit anything please post below.  Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics have not been separated by unit given there isn't always a clear definition of what consists of unit 3 and unit 4 content.

Further Mathematics
Unit 4: The number of “Applications” modules is reduced from two to one.

Unit 3: “Data analysis” is now two-thirds of the content of Unit 3. “Recursion and financial modelling” is now one-third of the content of Unit 3.

Unit 4: The single selected module is 100% of the content of Unit 4.

Unit 3 + 4: As before the School-assessed Coursework (SACs) for Unit 3 and 4 contribute a total of 34% to the study score. However, now Unit 3 is now worth 25%. Unit 4 is now worth 9%.

Mathematical Methods
-The study of the distribution of sample proportions and statistical inference of these sample proportions have been removed
Discrete and continuous R.V have been removed. (Binomial and Normal Distributions remain).

-“Construction of probability density functions from non-negative functions of a real variable” have been removed. (“Specifications of probability distributions for normally distributed random variables using probability density functions” remain)

-As a general rule continuous random variables seem to be reduced to a subset of continuous random variables– that being normally distributed random variables.

-SACs for Unit 3 and 4 remain to be worth 34% of the study score. However, Unit 3 is now worth 22%. Unit 4 is not worth 12%.

Specialist Mathematics
-Probability and Statistics removed.

-SACs for Unit 3 and 4 remain to be worth 34% of the study score. However, Unit 3 is now worth 22%. Unit 4 is not worth 12%.
