Difference between essay and exegetical response. Help!

Hey everyone, I have noticed that the T&T section has been a bit quiet these days, I reckon a little too quiet for my liking. I need help! I have been given a task by my teacher over the holidays to work on (So much for holidays!), and it says to either pick an essay or exegetical response. Now, to me, they look exactly the same. So for that reason, I have turned to this somewhat ancient section hoping to find guidance.
