i firstly was firmly against it, in no circumstances, but i meen, i no the course back to front, i dont mean to sound arrogant but i really really no everything, not the case with physics wich im re doing, i dnt memba alot of it
methods i wud prob just need to do essentials qstns etc

the cons
- i would be embarased i think, considering i made it very clear i wasnt gona re do it
- itll be a painful reminder of the exam
- i feel like throwing up every time i c my methods stuff in my room- hence y it has moved out of my room
- 3 days a week in class i will feel like this yr was all for nothing
- i may not even get a better mark coz i was pretty much getting 100% on eevry practise exam but then stuffed up the real exam for reasons i havnt really identified :S
- ill have 6 subjects, however 2 of which will be repeats

pros
-  limited work
- wont take too much time
- hopefulli get 50
.. i really need some help in this decision,
my subjects next yr are accounting, eng, chem, spec, physics ( which i did this yr, expecting around 43 hopefuli :S )
- im going to wait for my methods results before i decide, but if i am unhappy i want to know whether i should do it...

what do you guys think?!?!?! :)
thanks in advance!

What do you think you got in methods this year?? I mean if you know the course so well and u predict u can get a 50 if u re did it......doesnt that imply that you are on track for like a 45 this year??

I think it would be a waste of time if u got a 45 this year cos thats a bloody good mark in itself.

Yeah if you're predicting a 50 if you redo it, that means you'll prob get an awesome score this year anyway.

It's really not worth it because once you're at the higher end (like you appear to be) it's no longer a matter of knowledge but rather luck - e.g. stupid mistakes. I don't think it's worth it to try again but I spose wait til results come out first!

Plus it sounds like you hate methods - why would you put yourself through that again? If you did a subject you actually liked, as lame and cliche as it sounds, you'll do better in it. And if you're doing it for the marks ....... you're doing spesh! That's like scaled up by 29847548397648395!

oh lol i am doing spesh for the 349858767 scaling
but no this year ill be lucky to get 40
i dont really know what happened, but i got really stressed and started making all types of crazy mistakes
even though i was getting 100% on all pratice exams i think its because i didnt do my exams in proper exam condition, i dont hate methods, i really liked it, i was just devestated after that exam..

karina - i am in almost the same situation as you right now! as you can probs see from my sig, I am planning to repeat methods CAS with an aim of 45+ next year...i did very well on my SACs, did 63 practice exams and only lost 1 mark on exam 1 this year, but I too felt very, very disappointed after exam 2  :( but yes, it's a good idea to wait for your result before you make a final decision - your school should be able to accommodate that? and don't think that it's 'embarrassing' - if you do go ahead with it, you'd be doing what you feel is best for you :). i agree that repeating when you already know the course very well means that you can put much more time into your other, new subjects.

...i'll be so lucky to get 40 raw as well..argh!

i thought there were some kind of penalty for doing the same subject twice?
like a 10% mark down or something?

yeah.. this year's exam was shit hard, that'll probably result in a scale up by e^(infinity) + 2...

i'd say pick up another english? that'll bump up ur score hopefully if u blitz through maths and work hard on english/es

There is no penalties at all.
I kind of felt the same after metho, lost a few marks to silly errors(no more 50), but I won't repeat methods next year as it wil be boring and I won't be as motivated as I was this year.

It's probably better to diversify and take a subject other than Methods. If it's not about choosing another subject, but whether you should do Methods as an extra subject, I'd definitely recommend it.

Why? In year 12 you will have the mentality to perform better and stronger, while normally you wouldn't have this urgency in year 11. You've done the course before, and you should have little pressure throughout the year, as long as you still take it seriously and do some weekly revision (2 hours a week is enough for people who have done the course before, I reckon). You have the added advantage of being able to start past exams at an earlier date as well.

Also, those who do Specialist in year 12, but Methods in year 11 lose a lot of potential on their Methods SS, in my opinion. There are some exceptions, like those who get 45+ in year 11, but they are incredibly gifted (and/or took it as seriously as a year 12 student would). Methods is an easy subject, it won't be intrusive to your VCE regime, and you can afford to take it as an extra subject with good promised gains due to the "year 12 mentality" and having Specialist alongside which will improve your overall mental mathematical form.

further isn't too hard to pick up, without doing units 1+2. I've had a couple of mates, although they were very very smart, step right into 3+4 further and do very well

Ahh... yes, but you'd better hope you're going to get 45+ raw in Further, or it's going to go down a lot. I think the overlap in Methods and Specialist is greater, and the similar types of extended response questions in them both is going to help out in Methods to give you a 40 raw at least, which will scale to 45 anyway. You've definitely got a chance for higher than that, which will be even more of a bonus. The scaling on Methods is a safety net (if you lose you'll still end up with a decent score), while the scaling on Further is like a gamble (you have to win or else you'll lose pretty bad).
