How to Improve English

Hey guys,

I am so hopelessly lost and confused to what to do to improve my English. Although its admittedly not my favourite subject, it is the one I've put the most work into yet is my lowest scoring subject. For Unit 1 I've been able to achieve consistent A & A+ responses, I now struggle to get anything over a 7, 8/10, and struggle to write under pressure. I honestly don't know what's going wrong with my essays at the moment (I'll be happy to share my essays for feedback if anyone is willing to help), and at this stage I just don't know what to do to improve. I'm willing to do anything required and would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
James

-It helped me to plan 3 paragraph ideas for each major theme in the text, and write them down in a word document, so I wasn't as scared about not having ideas under pressure. Not only that, but I found it useful to make a whole word document of themes and ideas for them and quotes and analyses of the quotes and all my ideas and possible contentions, (and ideas my teachers had mentioned or ones I'd read about)
-Read high marking essays from past years if your teacher will give them to you, or ask friends, and find good phrases and make them your own, (not whole sentences though). I went through strong essays and picked out things like 'conveys the notion that...' etc and tried to incorporate them.
-does your teacher give good feedback? Make sure you get them to mark your practice essay before writing another, so you can learn from their feedback
(I might not be the best to advise you if you are getting 7s and 8s though, because on the exam I got 8,8,7.)
