Would it be possible to do first year biology at monash, with no previous biology or other science knowledge, and succeed? I have to achieve a minimum of 70% in my course and am wondering if first year uni biology is manageable without any prior knowledge.

These units have no assumed knowledge or pre requisites so you would be fine :)

Seconded. It's definitely manageable and you can definitely do well - just do your readings haha

Definitely. Managed it despite only doing psychology in year 11 and 12. Though you might find you have to put in the extra effort in studying the content (I suggest actually doing the readings), which isn't too bad because that way you're not as tempted to slack off compared to students who do have prior knowledge.

I'm doing BIO1022 this semester without BIO1011 or any knowledge of VCE biology and am obviously finding it quite hard. Does anyone know of any resources that could help? Is it feasible that I could still get a HD or is this subject generally quite hard?

I am doing BIO1022, after having completed BIO1011 without any VCE Biology. It is a lot of work but definitely worth it because it helps you out with some pertinent Chemistry concepts.
Yeah a HD is a feasible to be honest. I know someone you got a HD without VCE Biology

How'd did you go last semester? How much time did it take you per week? Do they mark the labs harshly and is the exam hard? Thank you :)

I went pretty well to be honest, my results were very surprising to say the least. I probably spent anywhere from 4-8 hours studying for Biology per week. The labs aren't marked harshly, they pretty much spell out what they want from you (like all other units I am taking) so it's in your hands whether or not you get 20/20 per week. You just have to be careful with addressing key points and writing Biologically accurate statement. The exam isn't really too difficult provided that you actually study throughout the semester and use SWOTVAC effectively. I know many people who crammed and all but it doesn't work in this unit, I can assure you; nonetheless, I should mention that it's not an easy HD regardless of VCE knowledge.
If you're picking up BIO1022 definitely enroll in PASS, it helped me greatly and assisted me in achieving my desired goal. BIO1011 is a bit dry though, from what I've seen so far, BIO1022 is much more interesting because you're pretty much applying a lot of what you learned in Semester 1.
