I'm in need of a stronger related text for the Tempest than my current one.
I was thinking of either The Little Prince or Where The Wild Things Are but am unable to establish strong links between both the ORT and The Tempest.
Help please!

Heya! These ones worked really well for me :)

  • An Idiot Abroad - Really easy to do last minute and suprisingly a lot of links (you can talk about the importance of attitudes towards discovery, compare and contrast to Gonzalo, discuss the interelated nature between physical/geographical discovery and emotional/spiritual/cultural discovery etc. Also just a really funny series in general :) I did the episode on China which worked really well.
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Fit perfectly with discovery! Can discuss the role of secrets and the role of forgiveness in both Tempest and TPoBaW. Transformations of the main characters through their discoveries, etc, etc. :)

Hope this helped!! Good luck :D

Was this the film or the novel? That sounds really cool! Good thinking!

I did the novel, but I believe the film would work just as well :)

Guys I have a simple related text. It's called "It's a matter of life" (You can find it on Youtube)
It's a simple 5 minute clip and really easy to analyse. I used it with The Tempest
I also used The Good Morrow (a poem) by John Donne

maya angelou's 'a brave and startling truth' works well with 'the tempest' too!

I recommend this close to the end to go with a short story or poem. Novels are hard and films/short films can often be difficult to deal with in an eloquent way in relation to the tempest. Maybe a poem or short story that deals with ideas about leadership or a disturbance in a heirarchy?
