Is Methods 3/4 closely related to 1/2?

Just started 1/2 this year and it's feeling pretty normal (probs because I have not gone into circular functions).
I was wondering if 1/2 Methods is worth stressing for and putting all my effort or is a LOTE worth more of effort, or maybe mainstream subjects?
I'm curious about whether the content covered in the 1/2 Methods book is similar to 3/4 because if it is, I'll need to put more effort to set the foundations and build up further next year.
Will Methods be useful for Specialist? Or is the content unrelated?

Thanks

To answer the question on if Methods 1/2 is closely related to methods 3/4: When I did methods, 3/4 built and extended upon 1/2 concepts- even though I did 1/2 on the old SD and 3/4 on the new study design.

For the question about if methods is useful for spesh: Again when I did it, I felt like Specialist 3/4 builds and extends on the Methods 3/4 knowledge. :)

Hope this helps a little :)

Wow thanks!!!!
Must've been nerve-wracking entering the new study design at the first year :P

I would definitely put effort into methods 1/2 to do well in 3/4 as well as spesh.
I personally did really well in 1/2 methods and got destroyed in 3/4. Thank god I had a good tutor who taught well for my level.
I would definitely not put any less effort into methods than any other subject, but you might not need to put in any "extra" effort.

All the best!!

Yes. As of now methods 3/4 has been an extention to some areas of study in units 1/2. My biggest regret is that I did not revise on my 1/2 content during the holidays, so 3/4 is a bit more difficult. :-[ :'(

Uhhh I see.
Did you find circular functions the hardest?

Methods 1/2 is quite important for the transition into 3/4 (probably a lot more significant that a lot of subjects which deal which have a lot of different concepts in 1/2 and 3/4).

Basically everything in 1/2 is relevant to 3/4 and nearly everything in 3/4 (apart from statistics) is built upon something you learnt during units 1/2.

To add to what's already been said, methods 3/4 actually doesn't have that much more 'content' than methods 1/2. Basically everything up to circular functions is mostly the same material, and calculus has only a bit of new stuff. imo probability and statistics are the only topics that significantly expand on what you learned in 1/2. For the other topics, you don't really learn any fundamentally new concepts like how you will be learning differentiation and integration in 1/2.

The difference comes from the manner in which you are expected to apply what you have learned. While each of the topics in methods 1/2 might be more 'isolated' in that you might do a test on functions, and then a test on polynomials, and then a test on logs and exponentials, methods 3/4 requires you to stitch everything together and use concepts from different topics in the same question. This actually makes things a fair bit harder, as you can no longer rely on just memorising rules and formulas - you have to truly understand how to use these rules and formulas, and at times you have to think a bit creatively. Thus, it would be optimal for you if you take special care during 1/2 to really try to deeply understand everything that you learn. It will definitely make 3/4 more straightforward.

No stress though, you still have a lot of time to learn everything :)

Were not up to methods 3/4 circular functions yet, but yes, circular functions were a new concept for me in methods 1/2, so they can a little difficult to understand.
