The only pen i used during VCE and planning to use in uni is BIC's 4-colour ballpoint pen.

Never had a problem with it.

I'm more of a mechanical pencil guy, and my daily carry is the Pentel P205 (0.5mm, the black one). I bought mine on eBay for $6 from Korea a few years ago, and I've been using it daily ever since. In year 11, my pencil tip was damaged somehow, and I asked Pentel if I can buy a new tip, and they sent me a new pencil for free. Here are some notable mentions:

- Pentel Techniclick (~$4 at Officeworks)
- Pentel Sharplet (~$4 at Officeworks, tip lasts exactly 2 terms before cracking. This happen to me twice)
- Pentel GraphGear 500 (~$15 on eBay)
- Staedtler Mars Micro (~$10 at Officeworks)
- Pentel STEIN P315 (~$10 on eBay)

All prices are in AUD. If anyone has any questions in regard to mechanical pencils, please let me know. Sorry, I just realised you asked about pens...I use the Pilot BPS-GP (~$4 at Officeworks). It's a really comfortable, and smooth ballpoint pen. Some may also recommend the Pilot G2 series, but I don't really like gel pens. I carry a Parker Jotter with me everywhere I go.

My grandma sent me heaps of pens from Sri Lanka and they were really nice...can't find them here. Next time I go, I'm going to also buy a bucketload.

have you guys tried Vietnamese pens? got them off my friend, really smooth and fine

My personal favourite is the Bic Atlantis, purely because it's so comfortable to hold. The ink looks a bit dodgy after a few uses. It's still completely legible, but not as bold/clear/whatever. Wrote with it during all my exams

It hasn't got gel ink (which is probably why it doesn't look the best) but that's better for me anyway because it doesn't smudge and lasts longer

The Bic Cristal M is also great (no noticeable fading of the ink right until the pen dies), but for some reason they always leak #cheapolife

I'm not a fan of those because I don't like how the tip is always at an angle because they don't exit the top straight, but at an angle. They are really convenient though which is great.

Imo the ones you get from open days are pretty weak in comparison to some of the better ones out there:

Personal preferences: Uniball Eye Micro 0.5mm (0.7 bit too thick for my liking)
Uni Jetstream series (i use 0.7mm here)

As for mech pencils:
Pentel Graphgear is my recommendation, although the Rotring series is quite nice (albeit pricey).

Just on this briefly, I noticed a genuine difference in my (English Language) SAC performance after investing in the pens I posted above. I think I like their fine tip and almost scratchy feeling. I don't like inky pens. And the grip sits nicely, making cramp less likely.

For reference: Staedtler 422G soft ink.

Any pen that allows me to pen-spin smoothly is generally the pen I go for (don't really care about anything else tbh LOL).

Same goes for mechanical pencils, haven't found one that's beaten one I bought in China back in 2012 (which I lost *cries*) but I've just been using the Pentel Energize X for now :P
