Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying some of the notes from connect education. If anyone has them for any of my subjects or even just in general for any subject, please let me know about how you felt about  them and if they were helpful or not.

Thanks :)

I had the maths methods one which I sold to a fellow ANer and I must say that the notes were really comprehensive and in depth. I could've easily used it as my reference book for the exam. If you can,  go to their end of year "revision" lectures as the lecturer's explain concepts with high clarity and better than my teacher (didn't have a really good methods teacher).

Awesome! So they are properly bound and allowed to be used for the exam if I wanted to? And because the methods ones are two books (one for unit 3 and one for unit 4) am I allowed to use duct tape to collaborate them into one book and take them into the exam?

Their binding is like a novels. You could duct tape it together yes but I would recommend going to Officeworks to properly bind them then duct taping them. I ended using my own notes and took examples from those notes and other resources then duct taped the binding and the VCAA supervisors didn't bat an eyelid

I have them for business and they are really good, especially for looking up definitions that are really accurate and concise.

I might point out tho that before you purchase them make sure they cover the whole course. The business ones miss all of Unit 4 AOS2 which is a little annoying.

I'm going to give a slightly biased review of the Connect English notes ( because the lead author is my tutor haha).

In my opinion it is good because it has many high quality essays written by the authors themselves as well as some of their past students and friends (ALL the essays are 9-10/10 quality). I feel that's what many students would look for in an English study guide, as there is a lot to learn from reading high scoring pieces. There are 9 text response essays, 5 language analysis and 9 for context. The text response essays are the best which I have seen (the text response section in general has a large range in quality as many students tends to not know the book well enough or with enough depth and as a result write essays which lack sophistication and are shallow). The context essays are mostly of hybrid form (magazine and feature articles) and two or three expository pieces.

In terms or the approaches and structures for the three sections, it is very detailed for Lang Analysis and Text Response ( I particularly liked like their text response structure as its quite sophisticated). For Context, the guide is probably of no help if you are writing persuasively as there is nothing on that since it's the least common form. They don't have notes on the four contexts as its covered in the lecture itself. There is some brief advice on creatives and somewhat detailed expository essay structure.

There is also a fair amount of advice at the end of the book on exam preparation for each of the three sections and things of timing for the actual exam.

Hope this helps!

If i was to attend the English connect lecture, do you get the same notes as someone who would buy the notes separately?
Thanks

They don't specify the texts for context, and most of them are hybrid so the textual links aren't clear unless you happened to have studied the text. For text response, some of the essay in the current edition would be different from last year. In last years edition there were 5 current texts (current to last year) and 4 old texts. Out of the current texts at the time, only one still exists on the syllabus (Henry IV, so that would still be on). They would have changed some of the texts to achieve a similar ratio of current texts to old texts. It wouldn't contain texts that were introduced this year. I can ask my tutor about the specific texts, and get back to you.

Has anyone bought Connect's notes for VCE English Language this year/past or done tutoring there? How did you find them?
