Hello!
My name's Conor, I'm in year 10 currently and thought I would start one of these to hold myself accountable and to look back on.
Before halfway into year 9, I was a pretty lackluster student, my marks were fine, maybe slightly above average but I just had no motivation or desire to learn and focus in class (i have always loved learning in some capacity though, especially when I was younger more passive learning like history youtube videos and things like that). But at some point after the first lockdown, I really started to think about what I want to do in the future and after that, something just clicked and I have been really motivated to study and learn. I still have absolutely terrible study habits but I'm getting better day by day so I'm happy with that. A Byproduct of my disinterest in school was that I elected not to take a 1-2 in year 10 and I'm already regretting that lol. I have a wide range of academic interests but currently English is probably my best subject and one I enjoy moderately, while I have come to really love maths and science in the last 9 months but am still getting better at them.
My subjects for this year are-
Pre-Methods (I believe other schools call this advanced math but I'm not sure)
Methods Boost
Specialist Boost
Chemistry
History (the Fight for Freedom)
English
The VCE Subjects I'm thinking of doing are (very in progress I will probably change my mind a thousand times)-
Methods
Spec (Without doing the 1/2 in year 12)
Chemistry
Physics
Legal (only the 3/4 in year 11)
Lit (only the 3/4 in year 11)
Possibly Uni Extension
I think this year for me is going to be all about building good study routines and getting better at learning than anything, as that's going to be my main problem I think, with that said, I made very good progress in term 1 but I think the amount of study I do consistently and the efficiency could still use some work. I think this showed in my chemistry marks, which I got a C+ in my first test and I haven't got my results for my bonding test back yet but I imagine it's similar.
I guess my ultimate goal for VCE would be to get an above 90 atar and go to a good UNI, but I don't really have any specific idea of want I want to do, just a vague sense of which direction to go in (actually ty in school lol). I guess a good goal (more of a pipe dream really) would be the chancellor's scholarship as my family is not that well off and it would be an amazing opportunity but I'm gonna see how year 10 goes before really evaluating what I'm capable of and what my expectations and goals should be in VCE.
I'll probably update this decently regularly, Thanks for reading.
