Don't see why not, also don't really see a reason to though. Unlikely it'll help your atar much, and there are always other pathways to get to whatever course you want to do that don't require repeating a year, potentially for no gain if you still don't get the required atar for direct entry.

Yes, there's no limits as to how many times you can repeat a year. And I know this because I repeated year 10 twice

To OP: If you have the ability to progress, I would strongly recommend progressing rather than staying at a particular year level. There are many pathways that didn't exist years ago, making it easier to get into a desired course/career. Repeating voluntarily should be considered a final and drastic step.

Kudos to you though for sticking with it at a time of great challenge. You'll be so much better off for it.

hey thank you all

I'm applying for this selective school ( EBSS )

If I'm successful I'll essentially be repeating year 11 again, however, I will be studying new subjects such as English Langauge, Physics and 3/4 Biology and Extended Investigation ( along with chem and methods). I'll also be focusing on the UCAT  in year 11 so by the time year 12 comes around I may have the upper hand.

I'm also 16 so if I do repeat year 11 when I graduate I will be 18 so no disadvantage there.

This is if i get into the selective school, so first things first.

thanks again everyone for your insights

EDIT: my current school is also 'underrepresented' which isn't a bad thing for some cases as you can get guaranteed placement in a course, however the courses I'm still interested in . . . do require a high ATAR, in the past years on average only about 2 students get above 90 in my school. I feel like i would have a better chance in a stronger cohort where I will be even more motivated to score high.

Hi Doc!

Why can't you? Assuming that you just turned 16 this year, staying back a year in EBS for a higher chance to get into Undergrad Med seems quite sensible if you're motivated. I pretty sure EBS gives guarantees to certain Science courses at Melb Uni. An extra bit of maturity does increase your likelihood to get into Med. This may sound unorthodox to some but it can really benefit if you're absolutely certain you'll be pursuing Medicine. All the best with your decision. I know someone who didn't do well enough in the UCAT or whatever that assessment was called 10 or so years ago and redid it the year right after Year 12 alongside with work and got into Med.
