Metal reaction with nitric acid

Apparently, the reaction of metals with nitric acid isn't like other acid-metal reactions.
Normal Acid-Metal

Nitric Acid-Metal


For the HSC, would it be best to stick to...

...if the HSC markers don't know about it.

That's a curious find. Probably better off steering away from nitric acid if you can.

oh wow that is a bit different to what i wouldve assumed to be the reaction of nitric acid & a metal. just for the case of curiousity, in what specific conditions does this equation apply? (concentrated/dilute no3 ) can other products form? (can it also form NO)
