So I am a bit lazy...
Which means I cant be bothered going through the VCAA document to find out what has been omitted from the study design.
So if there is anyone out there who is in-tune with the syllabus...could you please state the sections of the Psych course that has
been removed for the revamped 2013 study design?
That would be of much assistance.

Only thing I remember that is no longer in the study design is
all the stuff about different instruments used to monitor the brain (eg PET, CT, MRI, fMRI)

Unit 3 - AOS 1
- Rene Descartes and William James' theories of consciousness
- Altered states of consciousness: Meditative state
- Reticular activating system and thalamus
- Perceptual anomalies: Motion after-effect, change blindness and synaesthesia
- Brain research methods: DBS, TMS, CT, MRI, fMRI, PET and SPECT
Unit 3 - AOS 2
- Eric Kandel's research into Aplysia Californica
- Mnemonic devices: Peg-word method and method of loci
Unit 4 - AOS 1
- Use of imaging technologies in identifying changes in the brain due to learning
- Edward Thorndike's puzzle box experiment
- One-trial learning
- Insight learning
- Latent learning
Unit 4 - AOS 2
- Selye's General Adaptation Syndrome
Research Methods
- Extraneous and potentially confounding variables: Artificiality and demand characteristics
- Reliability and validity
- Use of non-human animals in research
- Roles of ethics committees
Instead of choosing phobia and then one of either depression, gambling or schizophrenia, you'll choose one of phobia, depression, gambling or schizophrenia. Either way, the mental disorder you or your school chooses won't be examined

This stuff is applicable only for SACs and not in the exam?
Good decision I think, except that phobia (in conjunction with some classical conditioning stuff) could have worked well for the extended response in the exam I think

They've cut out so much that I'm actually happy I got to learn it this year instead.

probably because there's no mid-year now :D so they don't expect you to have to retain both units worth of knowledge :) but either way, less stuff to know woo!

Surely since it's basically a known question now, that extended response will hardly differentiate between students. Especially as there are now 3 past VCAA exam (2011 unit 4, 2012 unit 3 and 2012 unit 4) extended response examples for teachers to show to students, there really can't be many surprises now in that question

and thus the cut-offs will be unfortunately higher too :( so like you said, harder to differentiate everyone

Wow that really sucks for you guys. I would rather have the content and one less exam. They basically took every cool topic except for sleep and went "lolnope"

^ I disagree for psych. They have taken a lot out and the material present now is probably equivalent to one unit. Essentially you have more time to learn less material which would make it easier and allow everything to sink it better. For other subjects maybe, there hasn't been very much taken out so I'd rather 2 exams.
I don't know of any courses which have psych as a prereq so its not as necessary to have it all in.

It will still differentiate. Check out the statistics for all those exams and the average is less than 50%. Just because it keeps appearing, doesn't mean students understand how to full mark it. I know in my year, 0% (rounded) of students got 10/10.

Yeah but that was 2011, the first time that anything like that had been seen.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. This 0% trend still continues. Check out Unit 3 2012 Psychology. Once again, 0%. 2012 Unit 4 hasn't been released but I really don't think a significant improvement will occur.
