Sup Guys,
I also tried for JMSS in 2019 and guess what! : ??? ??? I got in!!!! ;D ;D ;D
It was a highly selective process and I finally succeeded.
My tip to prepare is to make a strategy to answer questions quickly and then ally it into the test (obviously ::) ::)) I also recommend like what Pary said is to study about one year earlier and just do it light. (I did this) and then like before 2-3 week of the test pick up the pace and study more for the test. Otherwise, study concepts throughly and revise constantly (Like review what you learn in that week with a science and maths test). Also this is very important. DO NOT THINK IT IS OKAY TO SLACK ON YOUR REGULAR TESTS as it will reflect on you for the interview. Otherwise, start collecting certificates and participate more to have a better interview outcome. (I practiced public speaking which is useful for life).
I'll probably come on later when this thread is gaining momentum but until then,
CIAO !!!! ;) ;) ;) ;)
I'm also on the Discord server

Eyyyy I will see u on orientation day :)

People who want info for JMSS go and read pages of the 2019 JMSS entrance thread. There is plenty of information for all your questions. Also go to Jayce Batallones channel for further info.   ;)

I got an accepted into JMSS in 2019. And hope to see you there. ;D  ;D

From experience. I would say the interview is MUCH harder then the test. Out of the 3000 students maybe like 2500 would pass the test but only around  +-220 students get in.

But I would suggest to look at the previous threads since they contain all the answers to the questions we asked. Our questions should be similar to yours. You will also get a pretty accurate idea of dates and when the test/interview/results email happen.

But it is approximate. Since for example. The 2019 JMSS trials, the results came unexpectedly a week earlier.

And the emails from JMSS normally comes in the junk mail. I thought I did not get in but luckily looked in junk mail. Any later and I could have lost the offer.

So hopefully I have helped. Good luck everyone. Work hard and start studying now till the test.

Start with tuitions now for JMSS it is good preparation. And actually helps in school. Since you learn ahead of class.

If I find any info I will surely help.

But guys please do not think there is not a great deal of competition. The competition is HUGE. JMSS is one of the best if not the best science schools in even Australasia. And I have found out that there àre student who actually have Skype interviews from Hong Kong trying to get into JMSS.

And also the 3 percent rule is a big thing.

The 3 percent rule means that only 3 percent of only your cohort can get in. For example in my school there are 50 year 9 students and out of that only 1.5 people can get in. In my school 6 people tried and only I got in. But the other campus of my school had 27 people who tried out of 100 students. This means only 3 people could get in but 4 got it. This is called principal exception. It is when a student is exceptionally good the the principal allows more than 3 percent.

Hey! Thanks for all the informations and that was really helpful! I’m currently year 8 this year but unfortunately I think it’s highly unlikely for me to try out for the year 10 entry as I’m moving to nsw next year; but I’ll see if I can do the year 11 entry which is like two years after. And just a little correction here if u don’t mind (even tho I might be wrong as well), that I heard many ppl saying that around 1000 people tried out and 450 got into the interview stage, and 200 got an offer. But anyways, congrats on ur offer as the competition is really tough(omg I can’t even imagine how scary can the interviews be-_-); and hope u all the best at jmss for the next few years :)
welp I’m procrastinating rn

Dude you are way overexaggerating it. JMSS is not even that hard, the test( half the people pass) and that's 50 %. The interview solely relies on the way you speak and co curricular achievements. So in all really the way you get in jmss is through a good report, good speaking skills, and co curricular achievements. The competition isn't "HUGE" bruh its no where near as hard as Nossal or MHS.

Mate its not 3000 students who apply for john monash LOLOL. Theres barely even a thousand. MHS has 1800 applying, theres no frieken way "John Monash" has more applying than Melbourne high or Nossal!

Calm down a bit bro, I tried out for nossal this year and didn’t get an offer as my school reached 5% rule. Honestly, selective schools is harder to get in than jmss as u have to do really well on the test without been restricted by the 5% of ur school; but the jmss interview is also not an easy thing as well, as more than 200 ppl has got a good report and do extra curricular activities. The competition is definitely not as great as the shs, but there is still a big chance of not getting in(200 out of 1000 can get in to jmss, while 360/1800 can get in for mhs and this percentage is really close). One of my friend who is really intelligent(she got good reports) and are like state rep in a sport, still didn’t manage to pass the interview stage for jmss. So not trying to make u feel bad or anything like that, but imo it is essential to show some respects no matter how mhs is harder than jmss; as I believe there is some ppl who loves science and dreams to get into jmss, just like how u do to mhs and nossal.
(Ur welcome to speak ur opinions, but please don’t make statements like how I say everything wrong just because I didn’t make into selectives this year)

I’m really sorry if I offended you, but my point is; he said “3000 PEOPLE TRIED FOR JMSS.” And MHS takes 336, and last year it was 306. Jmss is barely 1000, probably 700-900.

Sorry that I said 3000. But during the announcement. Mr Corkill (Principal of JMSS) said there is around 2000 students here to participate for the exam.
