Hi I am so sorry but could you explain what bonus points and SEAS means? And also does it mean that I will get an offer for sure if I have an atar above 96?
So if you have an ATAR above the clearly in (and satisfy the prerequisites) you will get an offer.

Bonus points and SEAS are important if your ATAR is not above the clearly in.

Bonus points are extra aggregate points that are added to your atar - this is usually if you do subjects in vce that relate to you course. I am pretty sure that there is not possibility for bonus points for biomedicine @ UoM (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

SEAS is Special Entry Access Scheme and is for students that have endured educational disadvantage through highschool.

Wow this forum is truly awesome!! Thank you for replying guys!

One last question: do clearly in ranks change every year? How come on the atar calculator it suggests that you need 96+ to get into biomed but on biomed webpage it says the clearly in rank is only 95?

Glad to help!

Yes clearly in ranks can change every year - in the past biomed @ UoM has needed quite a high ATAR. between 2013-2015 I think the atar ranged between mid 98s to 99 (cohort size was only ~450 then). Now the cohorts are much larger - closer to 600-800 I believe thus the ATAR needed has gone down.

The ATAR requirement will ultimately depend on how many places are avaliable and how highly sought after those places are by students (especially those with high atars).

An older post of mine:
Depends on the strength of the actuarial studies cohort in your graduating year (hope I don't offend anyone by saying this — I'll just remark that this is only my opinion). Could be anywhere from 92 to 94 for top 3. A WAM difference of 2 might seem small, but across 3 years of subjects it is ridiculous, so the WAM range in question is quite wide — this is without even mentioning that it's a difference of 2 in the 90s.

For the very, very top rank, you could be looking at a WAM of 95+.

I did anatomy and phys in the same semester this year and found the workload to be very manageable, almost like doing 1.5 subjects instead of 2. I found that there was some important concepts that crossed over between both subjects (such as neuro stuff) and was finding that at times I was able to use some content from anatomy to help with my phys understanding and vice-versa. A vast majority is different but understanding the physiological processes, such as the physiology of the cardiovascular system aided in my understanding of the anatomy of the heart and blood vessels. I would highly recommend doing those two subjects in the same semester, as I found it to be a little less daunting than my friends who only did one of these subjects (other friends who did both agreed with me).

I did 4 science subjects in semester 1 (and again in semester 2) and found that the workload certainly is manageable. There was a lot of study, but I really enjoyed all my subjects so that wasn't an issue.

So I am planning to under-load my first semester of next year by taking only 3 subjects, but 3 really hard level 2 subjects, I am just wondering for anyone who has done both corporate financial decision making and econometrics 1, which one do you reckon is harder? I am trying to decide which one to take in semester 1... Also, financial accounting theory versus taxation law 1, which one do you guys reckon is easier for a 2nd year commerce student? Thanks ! :)

Hi there!

I did CFDM and Econometrics 1 in semester 1 this year, got H1 in both. I'd say that econometrics is a bit harder. With CFDM, it's just 10% tute marks and a 20% mid-sem; it's easier in semester 1 from what I've heard (mid-sem average in my cohort was 85%, but below 60% in the semester 2 cohort). With ECOM20001, the assignments can be a bit tricky, but they're not too bad - scoring above 90% on them should be a formality. The exam for CFDM is easier to score well in than the econometrics one. I'd personally take both in semester 1.

Regarding your second question: first, the handbook states IFA2 (ACCT20002) as a prerequisite for FAT (ACCT30001), so you should take care of that first. Second, the difficulty of taxation law depends on if you do corporate law (BLAW20001) prior or after it; the IRAC writing method took me a while to master. I did corporate law before taxation law, and corporate law is my equal worst final grade in my whole BCom so far; however, I did manage to scrape an H1 in taxation law. I'd probably leave FAT for your 3rd year and do tax law straight after corp law, in your 2nd year - there are a lot of 2nd-year students doing tax law in my cohort.

Hope that helps  :D

Hi, does anyone know the percentage of students that get a wam of 80 or above in Bcom?? Is it around 10% or more like 15%? I just finished my first year, but would like to know about how it goes in general for the entire degree as well as in the first year for Bcom students... Thank you!  :)

Pretty sure this was answered earlier but i'd say 15% is a good number. Should keep consistent throughout the degree. An 80+ WAM is good enough from an academics standpoint for most companies

Hi guys, random question and don't know if anyone could answer this.

I did econometric 1 this year in sem 1, was informed by my lecturer that my grade was amongst top 1% of cohort. Unfortunately I was not told what the highest score achieved was. Anyone know what the highest score was by any chance? :)

Btw, I'm not the only one who got my score, could this infer that I got the highest score (as well as the same people who got the same score as me)? Or is it more likely that someone else has gotten higher than me and I am in the lower score of top 1%?

FYI I am asking because I am curious about subject prize :)

Has anyone deferred a supplementary exam before?
Or deferred a Final Subject Assessment exam during the supplementary exam period?
What was the decision the committee made ultimately?
