Title: JLT Cup Finals format
Post by: turinturambar on October 11, 2018, 11:24:32 pm
What do people think about the new finals format for the domestic One Day cup?  I'm sure in the old format after the round-robin the second and third ranked team played for the privilege of meeting the top team in the final. If your team finished between 4 and 6 you were eliminated.  Now it seems that after the round robin all six go through to the finals.  It affects which finals you have to play, with one fewer match for the top two teams. But this time it led to results like the No 3 side being knocked out by the bottom ranked side, and 4th ranked Victoria taking the cup.

As a Victorian I'm not sorry Victoria won - but I find it kinda ridiculous that after the round robin they were ranked in the bottom half of the states, just scraped through a washed out match against NSW by being 0.02 runs ahead in net run rate, then just had to win two games to take the cup.  In fact, they won fewer games overall than Western Australia won in the round robin...
