Title: biology 3/4
Post by: lilyan on May 20, 2020, 08:17:58 pm
Hi everyone, I just joined atarnotes and have no clue where this is going however I'm desperate as I have just completed my first sac on AOS 1 (PRACTICAL BASED) and received of what I believe to be a terrible score (30/50.) in comparison to my cohort (at least that's what I think) and I super embarrassed at my mark. I had asked one of my friends what she recieved and told me she got 45/50 which stunned e because we spoke few nights before the sac and I thought we were in the same bad habits of procrastination. Even though I said I wasn't prepared I had got up to completing a whole 14-15 pg booklet of revision which was a very difficult one might I add. I also have my second sac in less than 2 weeks and am even more nervous than the first time because I feel the pressure to get 100% to achieve my goal of a 45 and above SS. Basically what I'm trying to get to is I know that sounds insane but when I actually sit down to study biology I enjoy it thus concluding that I would be able to and after receiving my first sac I'm in utter shock of myself and re-evaluating EVERYTHING including my capabilities. Would I still be able to receive a SS above 45 or a 40 at all??!!!!! what do you guys think I would be able to achieve realistically at most.

DESPERATE AND NEED ADVICE!!!

Hey Lilyan!
I honestly understand your worries so much, that was me last year! With regards to you upcoming SAC - I would write down everything you need to know for the sac (go through the study design and break it down into really simple small sections for example the first dot point of outcome 2 can be broken down to:
- sources and modes of transmission of plant and animal hormones
- sources and modes of transmission of neurotransmitters
- sources and modes of transmission of cytokines
- sources and modes of transmission of pheromones

and from this you can create a A5 summary for each small topic or create a mindmap, and revise it daily or using spaced repetition and do checkpoints or flash cards or something else that uses active recall. I also would recommend asking your teacher for a practice sac so you can see how you perform under timed conditions and really iron out areas of weakness. Ultimately we are studying for the exam so don't get to down about your sac marks (they are important but dont dwell on what could have been)

Best of luck and I hope this helps

EDIT: Also don't listen to your friends, everyone's perception of 'not studying' is very different for me not studying is barely doing anything
for example: usually study everyday/every second day in the 2 weeks leading up to a sac and therefore for me no study is only doing a little bit the night/or two before.

honestly don't listen to your friends and allow yourself false comfort when they will probably lie. I've been in the same situation as you where I've had people reassure me that they haven't studied and then they end up with a 90 (they clearly studied) and I end up with a way worse mark. nothing wrong with that but remember that at the end of the day everyone is ultimately your competition and unfortunately that is the way some people think. As for your mark, I've been in a similar situation and I've had people tell me that one bad mark doesn't matter much! think about it! this mark is probably worth like 8 or 10 percent whereas your exam is worth way more. it also heavily depends on rank I think, so if you are able to fix your rank I don't think this one mark will matter much. don't lose hope and good luck!!

No worries at all Lilyan! Always happy to help!
I think the best place to ask about your possibility of a 45+ study score would be in this thread here.
You are going to smash your next SAC, it just takes dedication and you for sure sound dedicated!
