Hi All,

A question for the moderators.

If someone fails an assignment, does that mean that they can't achieve a QCE at the end of year 12?

Kind Regards
JerryMouse2019

As S&S said, you can fail an assessment (or multiple) and still get your QCE :)

Hey 2021 grads,

Please answer these questions:

How did term 1 of year 11 turn out for you?

Was unit 1 what you expected it to be?

Since you've completed one term of year 11, do you believe that this term has prepared you well enough for the coming months of year 11?

Good luck to everyone for their QCE,

Kind Regards

The online learning session was hard, i couldn't focus on my zoom meeting and keep distracted.

I want to ask you question about subject change.
I am studying the subjects in the profile.below,
You can see that there is an odd subject.

I want to change Japanese to Biology

I reckon it would be helpful to contribute my ATAR and career.
I want to study Veterinary science or agricultural/animal science in UQ.
Thus I wish i want to drop Japanese which does not contribute for my career neither.
i know it is a late period to change subject but the reason of subject is because of career change.
When do you think it will be the best period to change the subject maybe end of the unit 1 of Biology?

Cheers I hope you study online learning great.

Hey!

Welcome to the forums :)

Heads up that unit 1 content is important for understanding bio so I would recommend if you do plan on swapping in that you do some prelearning to help you catch up. Usually it is easiest to swap in between units, but this still means talking to your school before then so that you have time to go through the process of convincing them and they have time to do what they need to for the shift. If you're confident that this is what you want to do I would start talking to them about it asap.

Good luck!

Hey! As your opinion, I determined to study bio when unit 1 ends,
I'm scared that I have to study unit 1 as well but doesn't matter haha
I'm doing English/Math B/SOR/Chemistry/Physics/Bio(Japanese)
Should I drop from SOR to R.E to study focus in other subject?
SOR/RE is mandatory for our school but do you thing SOR can make ATAR Score better or not?
I find that Atar is calculated as 4 subject + extra subject.
I am planning for Atar higher than 90, focus on 99

Unit 1 bio has heaps of resources available online for it. I would recommend taking a look at free notes, videos etc. before you swap to that class to help you be prepared and not overwhelmed. That being said, if you don't have the capacity to do that atm that's ok.

I probably wouldn't make a decision about dropping a subject given remote learning and everything unless you really feel like you need to. It can be hard to predict what your top 5 will be (for example, I thought I'd do better in chem than physics but it was the other way around) especially since scaling is a big unknown. Some students find that dropping a subject they use the time effectively on their other ones but many don't. If it was me in your position, I would prefer to keep 6 and have the safety buffer of knowing that if I underperform in one then my other 5 an be used for the calc.

SOR is a general subject and thus can contribute to your ATAR in the same way as other general subjects. RE is an applied subject and can also contribute to your ATAR but it does it differently; your ATAR is calculated from either your 5 best general subjects or 4 general subjects + 1 applied.

That all being said, this isn't about what I would do it's about what's best for you. If you are struggling with having a 6 subject workload after things have been normal for a while it might be worth revisiting your decision about how many subjects you take.

Hope this helps!

I should not drop SOR, as you said we don't know which subject will contribute.
I think it can be a way to stand big amount of tasks and chance to increase the efficiency of using time
Thanks!

Can anyone point me where I can find questions for my subjects for my 50% exams.

My subjects are: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths methods, Specialist mathematics and English.

I am also a student currently in year 11! It really is quite scary to me.
Right now I am having the dilemma of switching Chinese to Visual art but I have no idea about the scaling. I really want to go into Medical imaging and are doing the subjects: Maths Methods, Literature, Physics, Biology, Design and Chinese. Apparently 2 extra points are given for Chinese. But to be totally honest although i am getting A's I don't enjoy the subject and feel I will be failing it soon. There is so many characters to remember how to write and read. Reading and writing are my worst fears. I don't enjoy Chinese that much and would rather do Visual Art which I did until Yr 10. I received straight A's in the subject. But because I want to get into medical imaging I'm scared Visual art might scale me down.

Could anybody help? Thanks :)

Hi sealtheseal,
I recommend doing the subject you enjoy most, which sounds like Visual Arts. Scaling will not effect you if you enjoy one subject more than the other. In terms of Medical Imaging, you will not be disadvantaged as long as you meet the prerequisites (I'm not sure about pre-reqs for universities in Queensland but at Monash you need a 25 in methods and a 25 in bio or physics).

Always do subjects you enjoy, you will never regret it :)
