Yeah, if you're in a very strong cohort, it's definitely possible, especially since only a minimal portion of your grade comes from the SACs. If you're really invested, you should look into how your classmates above you are performing on VCAA practice exams, and how you yourself are. A 38 study score in Specialist roughly corresponds to 85% average on both exams (assuming a similar performance on your school SACs, relative to their difficulty), so if that's around the scores people near your ranking are achieving, you should be solid (and, of course, people will get better at exams as we approach the end of the year). If they're not, though, you'll probably need to score a bit higher than 85% for a 38.

I imagine you're specifically aiming for a 38 to get into the accelerated math program at unimelb? I think if you get a 35-37, they allow you to sit a test to get into that course regardless, so don't overstress yourself about a 38. Apparently it doesn't really do much anyway, just allows you to squeeze another subject in at some point.

I agree, 85% would definitely be enough to score you a 38, In fact, that may even be enough for a 40 because if we take a look at the grade distribution, that is just at the cut off from A to A+. I would say aim for a high A regardless. 85%, is certainly a safe zone.
