AWARDS 2015

Although these awards are usually a time for celebration and a chance to thank those who helped us and supported us throughout the year, this past year is different. This past year is also one of mourning for the AN community. Many of you would be aware that this year we tragically lost Nicola (hobbitle). Although I and many in the moderation team didn't know her personally, Nicola was someone who encouraged that we be brave enough to follow our dreams, no matter how difficult it may seem. On behalf of this community and everything she selflessly gave to us, we'd like to thank her for her unique insights, contributions, and perspective on education and growing up. Although nothing we write here can ever do her memory justice, we'd like to dedicate the awards this year to her memory, one that epitomsied everything wonderful about this community. Nicola, we're sad to see you leave, and our thoughts are with your friends and family through this harrowing experience.

I'm currently trying to come up with a catchy post (probably referencing BoS) that will generate the most upvotes for myself possible.

Bear with me while I do so.  My brain is slower than a snail with both legs broken.

I can't take 'credit' (feels inappropriate to use this word in this context) for it, it was a combined message from Brenden and the moderation team! Thanks to Stick for suggesting it.

Won by default, cheers to Alter for the nomination! #monashmasterrace

(to use Euler's crude cant, I just pulled a bangali and probably because I'm talking about myself, this got longer than expected ::))

More seriously guys, it may or may not have been the high winds last night this morning, but I was just blown away.  I'm pretty sure I was lucky enough to scrape one nomination for MVP (cheers Splash) and this was.... genuinely unexpected. (as in, like, I knew I deserved it but didn't think other people adequately appreciated my worth ;D) ;)  Though I didn't leap in electric shock out of my chair like time I was offered modship out of the blue... maybe because I hadn't rigged the system to get that mod offer ;)

I've only been round for a year, but in that year AN has changed me (for the better or worse? I'll get back to you) far more than I've impacted it.  Guys, I can't appreciate enough your insights, your views, your care, and perhaps most importantly your compliments.  To me, the most vital facet of AN is its constant supportiveness, generosity and care - something that everyone can easily contribute to, no matter what scores they got.  I hope we keep growing further in this direction!

Congrats to all the other winners, and all the other nominees and non-nominated members who were somehow missed; this social points game doesn't always reflect on real worth, and we really appreciate your unique input.

And as my prize can I have that pesky '_lok' thingy finally chopped off my name?  Please and thankyou.  Also a big round badge to wear to uni on the front of my jumper like a total cool kid?

Enjoy the lectures, and look forward to meeting you all and beating you all at Jenga on Saturday,

God bless,

bangali(-minus-the-lok-I-hope)

P.S. It's awkward to tag this on the end of something slightly flippant, but thankyou to those involved in that gesture towards hobbitle - it encapsulates what I appreciate so much about ATAR Notes.

I feel like this is equivalent to winning a prize myself. I'm so proud of my great work and I'd like to thank my loyal fans for voting for me. Have a nice day.

I just wanted to share this quote a while back that I feel sums up the kind of person Nicola was- appreciative, headstrong, wise and honest. I will always look back on this when it gets tough academically, thank you Nicola for inspiring your fellow AN members.

Damn people.  Uni is an incredible lifestyle and you will never get anything like it ever again.  I work really hard at uni but still fit in work and social time, it's all about balance, and balance is way easier to achieve with the relative flexibility at uni than in the work force.  I worked for 7 years before going back to studies and whilst it has it's downsides, it's so so so much less depressing being at uni.

Just my opinion, everyones different, but I think we can all agree that whilst uni may feel like a grind, it's certainly not akin to slavery.... in fact the freedom is amazing.
