Will I get an interview/offer with this UCAT?

I know there used to be a thread in the UMAT board but since we have the UCAT now, I thought it would be more appropriate to post my query here.

I recently sat my UCAT and miraculously achieved a 3000+ score :). I know that the exact percentiles are not known yet but according to last year's UK results, I'll assume that it will probably be at least >95th (if the 2019 cohort's performance is similar to last year's UK cohort, probably 97-99th). With a 99 ATAR (likely 99.95 with SEAS), what are my chances at Monash undergrad med?

My main concern is that I will probably stuff up the interview. I understand that the Monash MMI is quite an important factor as it makes up a 1/3 of the admissions process. Although I'll definitely work hard to prepare for it, I don't think I'll do very well and I've heard of some people achieving excellent results but ultimately not receiving an offer :-\.

Thanks,
- an anxious student

I guess the best thing would be working towards improving your weakest area, which it sounds like for you might be your interview. With the hard work you are obviously putting into your schooling and the UCAT, you wouldn't want to be let down by the interview. I'm sure that there would be an abundance of resources online to help you prepare, and hopefully, you will get lots of other advice as well.

Congratulations on such a great UCAT score! I'm sure that you must have worked extremely hard.

Chances are very good.
RE: The interview

While this is claimed to only be 1/3 of admission there is contention among a lot of medical students that it is worth much more. You see many many students with lower end scores but clearly great interview taking skills have gotten in, while others with combinations like 99.85 and 98% UMAT didn’t manage to get any offer.

There are indeed tons of resources available for the MMI and decent tutoring around.

Thank you :) And yes I will pour my soul into this MMI >.<

Thank you :) How are my chances at UNSW, UQ, UAdelaide?
Also, do you understand how the UQ subject incentive scheme works? Apparently I am eligible for two adjustments because I study Specialist Maths. Is this added to your aggregate or to your ATAR (97 to 99)? The latter seems a tad too generous.

So I had a look at the 2019 test statistics and my UCAT score is something like the 55% range and long story short, it's not looking good. Do you think there's any point in even applying for medicine at Monash (ERC and CSP only)?? I'm currently predicted a 98.75 raw with SEAS (low socio-economic area & rural). (I don't qualify for Dean's Rural List though)
Thanks!!

Not too sure how the UQ system works. UNSW is going to very tough but apply anyway. Adelaide is definitely possible.
Honestly should just apply everywhere. This was something I didn’t do and that was a mistake.

It’s very unlikely for you to get an interview, but there is nothing to lose by keeping your preferences on VTAC. I’d suggest leaving them there.

Hi,
I was wondering if I have a chance at an interview anywhere in Aus, especially at Monash, Adel med+dent and Latrobe dent with a 98.8 and 85 UCAT?
Thank you in advance!

Monash will be tough but is definitely possible given you have some SEAS boosts. LaTrobe dent cut off last year was 98.9 (I think) but this varies from year to year so definitely apply if you meet the prerequisites. Adelaide is tough given I believe it hands out invites by ranking people on their UCAT.

Hi guys!!! So I got a (roughly) 72nd%ile UCAT so I was wondering what my interview prospects for Monash would be if I (hopefully) get in the high 99's ATAR? I qualify for Monash guarantee (underrepresented school and low-socio economic area) but idk if that'd help much?
Thank you!!

Hi! I did really bad in UCAT and hoping for a good ATAR. Do you think it is advisable to take a gap year to improve my UCAT score?

With a high atar and your guarantee you have a decent chance of getting an interview. After that you will need to do very well in the interview for an offer. I have a friend who got 72% and got an offer so it’s definitely possible.

Absolutely a bad idea. You would be banking a whole year on the low chance that you get a competitive UCAT score for an interview and then even lower chance for getting an offer. It’s a massive waste of time that you could be using to make progress in an alternative career pathway whilst still being eligible for graduate entry.

Hi! I graduated this year with a 99.95 (ecstatic!) and my UCAT was in the 98th percentile. I know that I will receive an interview but how well do I have to perform in the MMI for a CSP unbonded place? Not really a fan of interviews and I’m currently overseas (returning just before Jan) so I won’t really have time to prepare.

Thanks  :)
