Sorry about that, guys. Was only trying to cure Rui’s boredom. (Will move elsewhere.)

But here’s a random thought as per the thread title: is a waiting room a waiting room if everyone is seen within a minute of sitting down?
Okay so i have just spent the last two hours studying on and off, and i come on here for a break and this what i see.
My brain is not working cause im looking at that with no clue what it means and its blowing my mind
In summary, What the hell do you mean???  ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
P.s the amount of emojis highlights my sheer confusion at this statement
"Live life like a pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown and be sweet on the inside"

"May you grow up to be righteous; may you grow up to be true. May you always know the truth and see the lights surrounding you. May you always be courageous, stand upright and be strong"

"Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire"

Advice for starting year 12
An open letter to my School Friends
Would 10 year old you be proud of who you are?

Oh dear. I've broken someone. Again. Twice in one day. Must be a record I'm not too proud of.  :-\

It's supposed to be a spin on the whole
"Person 1: Expect the unexpected
Person 2: But if you expect the unexpected, isn't the unexpected expected...?" thing, which you can see the whole thing here. It's just a riddle, really.
If you've never encountered that one, perhaps you've seen this one from literature: "Why is a raven like a writing desk?" (More on that here.)

Basically what I'm saying is:
Pretend you're sick and went to see the doctor. If you're at the reception (i.e. waiting room) of the doctor's practice, but everyone sees the doctor as soon as they sat down, is the reception (i.e. waiting room) still called a 'waiting room' despite there being no literal waiting happening in it?

I get what you mean but like,
The unexpected can be sooo many things, it can be rain, hail. a slap in the face, or whatever... how will you even know what it is?

So the answer to you q is .. no. The unexpected can be anything (as can be seen in the context of anything bad happening in life ).
You can't expect something, if you don't know what it is.

edit.. my head hurts..
//
It is still a waiting room =)

That is the function of the place. 1 minute is still a wait, ahaha.

I think the room example is a little more clear.

From what I know, he was one of the 'transitional' composers at the turn of the century. Sorta like Schubert. His later pieces definitely were a lot more experimental and did not follow classical composition strictures, but for the most part, his compositions could be regarded as late classical or early romantic for argument's sake. In other words: por que no los dos?

Lol, I mean I agree completely.

Perhaps, trying to assign only one period to him was a miscommunication on my part. What got me thinking was how many of the people I spoke to seem to imply (but not necessarily say) he was more romantic even though I used to just say classical anyway.

Well, now that I think about it, they're not wrong. One of the defining features of his major works were that he wrote solo piano works without the orchestra in mind, which is a radical departure from works produced by Mozart who wrote with 'orchestra-dramaticus gusto'. And I guess you could say he was more romantic in this sense. As when we say Beethoven, we generally refer to the corpus of his major works, which all share more romantic characteristics than classical.

Sounds like a pretty empty wrap.

A moth is a strange creature. It’s killed by obtaining what it most desires (light).

That actually sounded philosophical. The problems of overthinking.

It is classical music and it is quite romantic.  Like it's something that you'd play at a wedding =)

Nothing like a Romance for Violin and Orchestra No. 2 in F major, Op. 50 :P

Yeah, I mentally classify Beethoven as the iconic beginning of the romantic era, based less on technical knowledge than on my feeling that his music expresses far more intense emotion than most baroque/classical composers.

@e6p, we're talking about the period within the wide genre of "classical" music that spans a few hundred years - which tends to be split into time periods, baroque --> classical --> romantic --> contemporary.  Imo the genre hit its peak best during the romantic period.

If you want something to play at a wedding, how about Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64? One of my favourite pieces of music. Also cannot forget Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3 in C minor, Op. 78. One of the greatest pieces of music of all time.

I feel like next time the examiner asks me "which period does Beethoven fall into" I should just go for romantic, lol.

I forgot, do we have a thread for classical music discussion?
