...as opposed to the County Court, as both courts have unlimited jurisdictions. Aside from the Supreme being more specialised in hearing complex cases what would other reasons for the decision be?

A reason that a party would prefer to lodge a civil case in the Supreme Court is that legal representation in the Supreme Court is more expensive compared to legal representation in the County Court. This means that poorer parties may be unable to afford pursuing the case, especially if the other party drags out the process for as long as possible. I think this would be more common in cases where an individual/small group is suing a larger group (like a transnational corporation).
