hey guys,
i was wondering what units and areas of studies are required to complete in order to meet the prequisites for Melbourne post-grad med.
and what's the difference between minor, majors and extended majors?
and what subjects (minors and majors) should be selected in order to remain eligible for post-grad med?
i'm so stressed about doing this wrong and losing the chance of not doing med in the future  :-[
please help!!!
thank you so much!!!

First of all - don't stress! You have 3 years to complete the prerequisites (plenty of time).

For the MD at the University of Melbourne, you can fulfill the prerequisites (as a Monash Science student) with (as of current):
- Anatomy: DEV2022
- Biochemistry: BCH2022
- Physiology: PHY2011 and PHY2042
You can find the full list here. However, I've summarised the relevant parts for you above.

Be sure to check out the handbook pages of each Monash unit (linked above), as they all have prerequisites (e.g. first year biology). You do not need any specific major or minor to fulfill the prerequisites.

In terms of majors and minors: a minor is 24 points (= 4 x 6-point units), a major is 48 points (= 8 x 6-point units) and an extended major is 72 points (= 12 x 6-point units). In Science (Monash), you must complete at least one major (or extended major).

Hope that helps! :)

It might also be helpful to point out here that, in Victoria at least, Melbourne is the only university that requires prerequisites of its students. You could find a place at Deakin without having studied anything remotely scientific.

VanillaRice thank you so much!!!!!
in the web enrolment system, they have a range of extended majors, minors and majors so choose from.
i'll include a screenshot of what i've added but if i add physiology as a minor should i add it as a extended major and a major?
and if i have numerous majors and minors, will that extend the time of the degree??
thank you so much!

You cannot do a minor/major/extended major in the same area - because they include the same units (e.g. to do a major, you must complete the requirements of the minor, plus more).
You can select as many majors and minors as you can fit, provided that you meet all of the other requirements of your course (generally the maximum that works is 2 majors and a minor for a single degree). Also, for a BSc, you must complete exactly 144 credit points (no more and no less). This is equal to 3 years of full time (24 credit points per semester) study. You cannot study more beyond this as part of your degree.

Would anybody know if we can complete the pre reqs for melb md via monash pharmacy? Would enrolling in their combined undergrad and masters degree for pharmacy make us ineligible for melb md? Thanks.  :)
PM me for Methods (raw 46) and Chemistry (raw 48) resources (notes, practice SACs, etc.)

I also offer tutoring for these subjects, units 1-4 :)

There doesn't seem to be any info regarding Monash Pharmacy units listed, which probably means that no one has applied for those units to be assessed before (as I understand it, I believe the Monash Pharmacy course has been restructured somewhat recently anyway). You should be able to apply to get your Pharmacy units assessed for eligibility (more info here).
