Comm/Law at Monash vs Comm/Law at ANU

Hey guys, now that ATAR's are out, I'm in the process of finalising course preferences. I'm tossing up between doing Eco/Law at ANU and Comm/Law at Monash (majoring in Eco). If anyone who does Comm/Law or Eco/Law or something similar could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

Basically, I'm deadset on doing law. What I complement that with is what I need to decide. On the one hand, I really really like eco and find it interesting as well as applicable to the real world. This draws me more towards ANU, and I honestly don't mind moving to Canberra.
But on the other hand, I feel like doing a dedicated Eco degree would make it too repetitive and boring? So, in this respect, I feel doing a broader Commerce degree at Monash would be better, given that I can major in Eco.

If anyone has any thoughts on these, please let me know as it would help me heaps in reaching a decision. Just bringing it back to the law aspect, would doing Eco or Comm complement it better (given I want to go into corporate law), or would they basically have a similar impact?

Either will be fine. I just finished my arts/economics double degree course this year at Monash. If your interest lies primarily with economics and not with other commerce fields like accounting and marketing, then a pure econ degree would be fine. I wouldn't worry about it being overly repetitive; there is plenty of variety in what you can study within the vast field of economics.

I doubt there would be any meaningful differences in employment prospects, unless you decided to apply for traditional economics roles at Treasury/RBA/ACCC/PC.

I've been told by our careers counsellor that ANU has a significantly smaller student body compared to Monash, and that this creates a more personal feel with lecturers and other students. In addition, this can help with positions such as internships or placements. Could this be a significant enough factor to pick ANU over Monash, given the opportunities it could provide?

Thanks a lot for that. Looking back, would you still have chosen the Econ degree, or rather the more broader commerce degree. I guess what I'm trying to ask is that are you satisfied you took a specialised degree or did you wish you had done the commerce degree to give you more breadth?

Smaller lectures could be nice, but to be honest I just watched all my lectures online anyway (and many others do the same thing!) so it wouldn't have made any difference for me. In terms of internships, I think either institution can set you up well in that regard (I actually did an overseas internship in Europe through Monash as part of my Arts degree).

I don't regret for a moment doing econ instead of commerce. I had precisely zero interest in accounting, marketing, management, etc. so I'm glad I was able to avoid compulsory units in these areas and instead focus on what I was good at. Since economics is by itself so diverse, I don't think there is any danger in an econ degree being viewed as over-specialised or niche.

Thank you so much! But I feel like I want to experience the broader aspects of commerce, so I'm probably going to do commerce, but major in eco. :)

On that note, does anyone have thoughts of doing Comm/Law at Monash compared to ANU? Would you pick one over the other, and why?
