Title: What would you do if you had no internet for a week?
Post by: Owlbird83 on April 21, 2021, 04:08:17 pm
This includes no laptop/phone etc.

(i mean this in a fun way, so feel free to answer this question as though your study/school/work commitments were not applicable for this time period).

This actually happened to me..... I found out I loved books after hating them for 10+ years. So it was a win for me!

Read many books. Write many thousands of words (I'd be hoping for at least 20K, in a full week). Finally finish learning to play the 4th Consolation (Liszt; I can only play around half of it decently).
Wait. You said no laptop/phone. Why?! I wouldn't be able to write many thousands of words!! (If I had a laptop with no internet, I'd be writing the words I've been wanting to write all year so far. But without a laptop I'd not.)
Oh, and probably rewatch all the Narnia miniseries', and maybe the films too, if I had a screen to watch them on.
EDIT: Now you're making me want to go sabotage the internet or uni or something. :P

This is interesting! :D

I feel like I would go for a lot of runs and play sports, explore different parts of the world (given COVID-19 didn't exist during this week), learn new things like certain parts of science or other topics

I also would try to start a business (but I may need internet so.....)

I didn't have internet, a phone, or a laptop for the first half of high school. I used to read a lot of books (was several hours a day, but I also wasn't as picky with books) and would always hang out at the river, either walking by it or swimming in it. I used to also write a lot of short stories with pen and paper.

I guess now, as an adult, if this were to happen I would probably do the exact same thing — I haven't changed that much and these things are still immensely enjoyable.

I'd probably also clean my garage properly like I've been telling myself I would for weeks now...

I'd... read (predictable, yes) 😂

Otherwise I'd sleep or err tidy up my room and bookshelves 😅

Tell me which books you guys read? I use to love to read, but because I am in year 12 this year the schools English text has to come first.

So many books!
Head over to the books and reading board to see ones that have been discussed ;D

Is "cry" a valid answer? :P

Reading and hiking would probably be highest on the list (though how am I supposed to find new places to hike and how to get to them without the internet?  :P  OK, technically I do own a few "day walks around Melbourne/Victoria" books, and hardly ever use them...).  Oh, and if I'm doing the hiking I also need my phone for offline maps and a clock, at least.  Maybe a camera when my actual camera runs out of battery.

In fact, I actually have a practical example (sort of): Last month I spent 7 days walking the Great Ocean Walk.  As it happened, there was mobile coverage at some points of most days, but I didn't know how much I'd get in advance and so had to plan for no internet.

When I had it, I used it for sharing some of what I saw with friends and family and letting them know I was OK ("Yes, I saw koalas and that was cool.  No, no drop bears assaulted me - must have been the Vegemite behind my ears").  But it was a great time, and I could have got by just fine without internet for that week.
