Welcome to AN Rose ;D

Definitely agree with you about Percy Jackson - I only watched the first movie, was very disappointed!

What do you do outside of school? Have any hobbies?

1. What year level are you in right now, and what are your subjects?
I am in Year 11 this year, first year to do the ATAR system in Queensland (btw, can anyone enlighten me on any important general details with this system?). I will be doing: Chemistry, Biology, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Maths, General English and Physics.

2. What movie do you most passionately hate? Provide justification.
tbh, I'm not exactly a great fan of movies - documentaries interest me more. I know, I know... :o

3. In the event of a zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice?
Similarly, I;m not greatly acquainted with the concept, but, you know, maybe travel back in time to prevent whatever caused this apocalypse. I'm really not too sure.

4. Who do you want to be as a person, what do you want to achieve? (Optional)
I want to go to the University of Queensland and study undergraduate/provisional entry medicine, get an ATAR of 99.95 and 100th percentile in the UCAT. And I guess I can't really leave out getting rich...

5. If you had to summarise yourself in a word, what would you say? (Optional).
Ambitious.

Welcome to AN Twisty314!

What sort of documentaries do you watch?

The way ATARs are calculated vary a bit between states and I'm not sure how Queenslands work, but basically they add up your scores for each subject you do and then rank everyone and from that you get your ATAR - for example if you get an ATAR of 80 then you beat 80% of the state. (ATARs are used nationally but calculated separately in each state).

I really enjoy watching any Maths or Science related documentaries. I also enjoy reading a lot on the same sought of subjects too.

Thanks! A little anxious entering into the new system I admit, but this has certainly helped!  ;)

What's your favourite extracurricular?
Do you think you'll continue them all next year?

Ok so my post was all the way back in October LAST YEAR!! but I'm not sure if these questions were for me because I'm not really sure how to use and I feel bad because I only saw this now. But better late then neverrrr!!! ;D

My favourite extracurricular is netball and debating can't decide.
And will try to continue them all this year :0

And thanks for the welcome!!!!!

Hey there! Welcome to AN! I've seen your journal and love it so far. It's great to see a younger user join us! (and I personally agree when it comes to Usain Bolt's legs vs. zombies)

If you need any help feel free to PM me - otherwise, see you around! 😊

1. What year level are you in right now, and what are your subjects? (Mandatory)
I'm in Year 12 as of 2019 (wow that's scary) and I am doing Math Ext 1 and 2, English Adv and Ext 1, Economics and Japanese Continuers.

2. What movie do you most passionately hate? Provide justification. (Mandatory)
I really really really dislike Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. I went to see it with my friends despite the bad reviews it got, because how bad could it REALLY be? Although it provided some progression in the story and character development, there were two fundamental flaws for me:
- the misnomer title for the movie in which Grindelwald was simply established as "bad" rather than focusing too much on his crimes
- the lack in continuity across the Harry Potter franchise (but that isn't really new *cough cough*) and the information in this film contradicting the original Harry Potter timeline
I walked away disappointed at the ending, but I can give it credit for being a decent (not satisfactory) film. I don't think it was crafted as well as the first Fantastic Beasts film was though, and hence the ensuing disappointing reviews.

3. In the event of a zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice? (Mandatory).
Give me a sword any day. Fencing foils won't be as effective because they're not sharp. I'm pretty sure I can swing a sword though :)

4. Who do you want to be as a person, what do you want to achieve? (Optional)
My short term goal is to get into a good communications course, and my aim is to complete my HSC without any regrets. I'm the type of person who doesn't want to live with regrets that I could have easily avoided. Regrets are a part of life, but I want to do my best while not compromising my values, relationships, and kindness towards others. Machiavelli, I'm looking at you.

Thanks for reading, and I hope I can contribute ^^

Hi Melberry, welcome to the forums!!

I really want to see Crimes of Grindewald, so now I am slightly scared it won't live up to my expectations haha!  Also love the goals that you have made for yourself - can definitely empathise with wanting to uphold personal values.

Are there any particular universities you are interested in for communication?

Crimes of Grindelwald isn't outright horrible but I feel that die-hard Potterheads would nitpick at continuity issues. The world itself is still gorgeous and there were pockets of moments I thought were beautiful, so perhaps you will find some redeeming qualities of the film yourself :D

I'm very interesting in taking UTS' Public Communication course, but I have UNSW and Macquarie Uni Communication courses as backup plans. I intend on taking a double degree, pairing Communications with BCII (UTS) or Commerce (UNSW)

Hiya I’m Gracie!
1. What year level are you in right now, and what are your subjects? (Mandatory)

Year 12 as of 2019- subjects are Biology, English Advanced, French Continuers (accelerated and luckily got a Band 6 yay!), French Extension, Italian Beginners and Legal Studies.

2. What movie do you most passionately hate? Provide justification. (Mandatory)
Ok so there’s a few that spring to mind but one that I really didn’t like was ‘Hop’. Idk if anyone else remembers the Easter movie with Russell Brand and Kaley Cuoco but the geez it dragged on. Especially disappointing for me since I’m a total advocate for sappy movies - ofc I even cried in Finding Dory (who wouldn’t cry when animated fish find their parents omg what has the HSC done to me I’m an emotional wreck lol).

3. In the event of a zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice? (Mandatory).
Any of my maths notes up until the time I dropped *ahhh bliss*. They were so bad they would surely stay away (and if they wanted they could keep the notes as a peace offering I would love to get rid of all of them anyway XD).

4. Who do you want to be as a person, what do you want to achieve? (Optional)
My main purpose day to day in my interactions with other people is to be the person that hopefully made them laugh that day or made them feel more welcomed/ included. The greatest feeling I ever get is making people laugh or smile (sorry to be cheesy haha).

I think I want to end up in health which is bit of a lol when looking at my subjects but I reckon it may work in the end. Used to want to go into diplomacy but now not sure :/

5. If you had to summarise your life in a paragraph, what would you say? (Optional).
‘A boba a day keeps the HSC at bay’ jks because nothing makes the HSC stay away and my wallet is too empty for bobas rn ;(

Ok - she dedicated herself to her passions, especially foreign languages, and her greatest joy was spreading joy and >trying to< share jokes with everyone she met :)
HSC 2018: French Continuers (92)
HSC 2019: Biology (94), English Adv (92), French Extension  (41), Legal Studies (91) and Italian Beginners (95).

Hi there Gracie!
That's so cool that you study more than one language at school! I also agree that genuine laughs and smiles can make my day ^^
Not really a work related question, but what are your top 3 boba orders? (flavour and topping if any)

Hi Guys! I was struggling upon making my first post until I watched the video and wanted to know how I could start a new topic.

Another thing for english standard HSC, we have received a shit ton of homework and got the following question:

Plan and write an extended response for Billy Elliot ( under timed conditions)
Q.Through the telling and receiving of stories, we become more aware of ourselves and our shared human experiences. Explore this statement with close
reference to your prescribed text.

I didn't quite get how to answer the question other than the fact that for planning, I would need to research the verb in the question.
If its ok, I would prefer a lecturer to look at this. P.S I also need help in general breaking down questions for english standard... as in planning them..

thanks!
Komal:)
