Hey Jerry! How are you feeling about going into Year 11? I got so much homework for my 1/2 subjects over summer. Have you found the same?

Hi to all my fellow 2021 graduates!

I can't believe I just discovered this thread. Do you guys think you're prepared for year 11 and 12?

Good luck to you guys for year 11!

Hello everyone,

I haven't started unit 1/2 yet since unit 1/2 begins when I start school next week (which is why I haven't had any homework to do over the holidays).

However, I have started doing some work on the unit 1 part of the QCE General Maths syllabus.

Going into Year 11 still feels daunting as I sometimes still can't believe that I'm in my 2nd last year of high school, albeit with only 3 terms of Year 11 (since Year 12 begins in term 4 of this year for me).

I just hope that I can focus and do my best in all of my subjects this year (even though the ATAR period doesn't begin until term 4 for me).

Thanks for reading this post fellow 2021 grads,

Kind Regards

Hey elmobluey,

Judging by your subject choices, it looks like to me that you're aiming to do something in science, engineering or medicine after you graduate next year.

Is my observation right?

If it is then please up-vote this comment :)

Yes! Haha, in 2 years. I aspire to be a vet one day. But I'm happy to do anything science-y really.

This feeling hasn't caught onto me quite yet. It probably will on the first day. I've heard classes go through so much more content compared to year 10 and it's overwhelmed some people.

You can do it! I believe in you! (And all of the class of 2021) :))

Lucky lucky! But good on you for starting some work anyway! ;D

I know what you mean; only two years to go! Wow, that's an interesting system. In VIC we only do a week or two of Year 12 this year.

What interests you about being a vet?

Oh wow. Do you guys have a longer exam period in year 12? Sorry, I forget what people tell me about VCE and HSC haha.

I love animals of course! I've always wanted to help and heal them. I always want to learn about them, ever since I was really young. We don't deserve animals to be honest  :'(. Ever since early last year, I got an amazing science teacher that pushed me and motivated me so much, so my love for science has grown a lot too :))

Not really, at least I don't think so. Some schools do "early commencement" (or headstart ect.) like our school, so we start our subjects at the end of the previous year and get set lots of homework. Then, we finish in about week 2 of term 4 and exams start shortly after that.

Animals are the greatest. I think that birds are so interesting.

Are you doing bio?

Oooh I see. I see a lot of people in year 10 doing unit's 1 & 2 subjects? Is that just a VCE thing? Maybe my school is really small, but we only had a small handful of year 10's students that have completed u1&2 methods last year.

Yes. I've done some studying on it throughout the holidays. There's so much content!! Even in the first few pages of my textbooks. Such a giant leap from year 10, but I find it very interesting.

From what I've seen, units 1&2 early is significantly more common in Victoria than other states (e.g. I did bio early)

textbooks are notorious for having heaps of extra content so try not to stress too much about all of it - use the syllabus as your guide.

Bio is quite content heavy, but the textbook definitely has more information than you need!

What are you finding interesting?

I have just started Year 11. We are currently in Week 2 and I already have so much work to do. I am incredibly stressed and the term has barely begun. I will probably be pulling an all nighter. RIP me  :-[

Hey,

Hope things ease up for you soon. I understand why you would pull an all-nighter but unless you absolutely must get the work done tonight I recommend you get some sleep instead. People work, learn, and remember better when they aren't sleep deprived + being rested makes it easier to have self-discipline.

Good luck!

Hi All,

A question for the moderators.

If someone fails an assignment, does that mean that they can't achieve a QCE at the end of year 12?

Kind Regards

Hi JerryMouse

Not a moderator, but after hopping onto the QCAA website, it seems that you need 20 credits to obtain a QCE. General subjects are usually one credit per unit with the requirement of passing both units 3 and 4 to obtain any credits. In your situation, you could obtain 24 credits in total by passing your 6 general subjects. Hypothetically, you would be able to fail 4 entire units (not that you would want to :o) while still being eligible for a QCE. Also, one unit could be made up of multiple assessment pieces, so no, your QCE wouldn’t be in jeopardy if you happened to fail one assignment.

Hope I could help and if I've gotten anything wrong, someone please call me out on it :)
