Which Psych lectures do you recommend?

Did you attend any Psychology lectures last year (for either Unit 3 & 4) and if so, which one's did you attend?
Most importantly, did you find that their notes really helped you during the year - or, would you have coped similarly without them.

Trying to make a decision on lectures for Psych so any help from previous students would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks :)

I completed Psych last year (and got 40)

And I only attended one free TSFX U3 lecture which covered some of U3 ...I don't remember much.

I've seen notes from TSFX for Psych- it is helpful in terms of summarising everything for you and it's also organised..so less work for you, I guess. But tbh I coped well without going to paid lectures. I actually used notes that were downloaded onto AN Notes page- and they were very helpful. And then made cue cards , mindmaps etc

Also a friend of mine went to a lecture conducted by the Chief Assessor , paid, but she said it wasn't that helpful. Although, it is her opinion. That's all I know :)

I guess going to end of year revisions will be helpful in terms of revising the content. But tbh with a subject like Psych, it's majorly memorizing and recall (and application)...employing things you actually learn in this subject [ie memory, learning etc]. However, lectures may come in handy if they tell you HOW TO APPROACH a question and ANSWRING questions to GAIN MARKS. but the Assessor's Report is a great resource too, consider it your 'Bible' and tells you were marks go often. i also found discussing answers with teachers and friends very helpful- as there are questions, not purely on recall but also were accompanied with application [of theory]. And once again, beingmindful of the wording of ur answers is very important. assessors can be pre' pedantic.:)

THat's just what I think :) goodl luck :D

Thanks for the quick response! Yeah I went to the Bio ones last year and found the Lectures themselves were quite useless and draining; so I can share in your friend's frustration in that respect - the notes however were extremely useful. I think I might give the TSFX psych lectures a go - if worst comes to worst, I'll waste my time at the lectures but at least I'll have a really good set of notes for the duration of next year! I'll keep the rest of you comments in mind, thanks for the help! Btw, Did you find that the TSFX lectures touched on "How to approach a question and How to Answer a question"?

Well from that free lecture and advice I've received,
They do tell you to : (like in Bio)
Write in dot points
Be concise
Answer the question- relevance

ahaha, you probably know that already.

Sorry, you should ask someone else who has gone to a lecture for that question (about wording and approaching the Q) :D
But I guess with practice and exposure to many questions (AND SAMPLE ANSWERS) as possible, will help you nail the wording to get the marks.
Bio should have helped , yeah? (In terms of approach)

Also definitely, in terms of notes, it is very helpful. :D Esp. as they have given you what's relevant and examinable.

And yeah, I'd rather get notes pre-made than make my own notes. My pov, the obvious- it is time consuming. However, many may prefer to write own notes to 'ingrain' the info. Once again, it really depends on the individual I reckon.

+ additional stuff: with notes , I went onto making cue cards(memorise on train, school, waiting for something) and mind maps (keywords)..and then would explain it to other people and myself. Once confident with content...examsexamsexamspracticepractice. And with Psych, it's pre' relatable to things around you and yourself..so in a sense, you're constantly revising :D anyways, this is kinda deviating from the topic.

i went to pretty much every tsfx psych lecture in 2013
i found the lecture itself really really helpful. sometimes id find it hard to get motivated especially over the summer holidays, but going to the lectures really kicks you into gear and gets you into the mood for the subject and puts you at an advantage immediately over most people.
the lectures were very helpful, and very informational. BUT they were a bit dry, and hard to stay awake at times, but if you really want to smash psych, you will persevere. besides psych is really interesting anyway :D
i didnt use the notes too much throughout the year, but roughly once a week or so there would be an argument about a definition or a statistic when teachers and textbooks would disagree, and in those circumstances i would rip out the tsfx booklet and check what it said

if you cant afford or it isnt practical to go to all the lectures, the exam revision lectures were the best, followed by u3 headstart lecture, u4 headstart lecture, and then the revision lectures.

good luck

I attended the TSFX headstart lectures for both unit 3 and unit 4 this year. Personally I found them useful because it was a better way to learn the content over the holidays than just reading the textbook yourself, if you are looking to get ahead (which I do recommend). The notes are good, although I didn't use them too much throughout the year but I did use them to help create my own notes when revising etc. They do teach you some strategies to tackle questions and give you tips about what examiners are looking for, and they go through some example questions where they tell you what you need to include in order to score full marks.

I found the unit 3 headstart lectures better because they went across 2 days (I think around 3 hours each day) whereas the unit 4 headstart was one whole day, so it did get a bit difficult to concentrate for so long.

Overall, I found the actual lectures itself to be more valuable than the notes.

There was that free Victoria University Psychology lecture by Roger Edwards. I found some tips to be useful, plus it's free.  :P

I didn't go to any other lectures.

In year 12, I went to basically every Psych lecture there was available. Connect's was definitely the best ! I loved the lecture so much I started working for them.  It really taught me the exam skills I needed to get a 50.

I am running the Psychology Headstart class which will be a workshop(limited to 15 people maximum) on Research Methods and the first Area of Study: Mind, Brain and Body. We will focus on the content and then how to apply that content to exam questions.

I went to all the TSFX psych lectures in 2014 and the ones I recommend are the Head Start lectures and the Revision lectures.

HeadStart:
This was great for giving you a brief overview of unit and what you will be focusing on during the year. By being given the summarised notes, you pretty much know what's going to be taught and that way, you can already start linking each area to the next in order to get a better understanding when your teacher finally teaches you the area
What was most valuable was the time they spent explaining research methods.
If I had to just rely on my textbook (Oxford) to learn research methods, I would not have gotten A+ on the exam.
Not only to the lecture notes summarise it well, but they also add information that the textbook may not have.
Also, by having an assesor or experienced teacher explain it, you will have a much better understanding plus you'll have the ability to ask questions immediately from a credible source in order to clarify your confusion

Revision:
The notes are basically the same but
what the lecturer focuses on is different
These lectures are more exam focused and the lecturer will spend more time on telling you HOW to answer certain questions and WHAT is needed to gain full marks
People underestimate Psych because they think it's just memorising content, however the examiners are very strict on WHAT needs to appear in your answer.
The lecturer explains the KEY WORDS you need for certain responses and what abbreviations you can and can't use
For that reason, I found these lectures invaluable

I hope that helps!
