VCE Physics or VCE PE? Help with spesh as well.

Hey everyone!
My subject selections for year 11 are due in a few days and I have chosen the majority of my subjects. However, I am still deciding whether I want to do VCE Physics or VCE PE. I also don't know if I want to do Specialist Maths or not. The subjects I have already chosen are:
English 1/2
Methods 1/2
Biology 3/4 (currently doing 1/2)
Chemistry 1/2

I've read some older threads on AN and the majority of people were saying that the physics curriculum is very dull and boring. They've also said that it's fairly easy to score highly in the subject, especially if you're good at maths. I do like some parts of physics, and some I'm not too fond of. I enjoy astronomy and similar topics but don't really like electricity and motion. The reason I want to do PE is mostly because I quite enjoy learning about that sorta thing, and because I feel like I could score highly in it.

I am also unsure if I want to study Specialist Maths. I am in the accelerated maths class this year and I'm doing pretty well. I would consider myself to be fairly good at maths, however I'm not sure if Specialist would be too much of a workload with the other subjects I'm doing.

Just some extra info: I plan on doing Biomedicine at UoM and then doing med OR BSc and then med, unless I can get into undergrad med. My second option is to do BSc and do Engineering (Aerospace).

Any help would be appreciated guys! Thanks. :)

Specialist and Physics do have a lot of in common (ie: Vectors, straight line motion, etc) so you'd benefit if you do the two together. The bulk of the study design focuses on Electricity and Motion (the ones you aren't too fond of) so I think you should take that into consideration. Nonetheless, Physics is a good choice for the degree you want to do (my teacher once told me that universities prefer students to do physics than bio if they're doing Medicine.)

For me, Specialist at the moment is easier than Methods (I know it definitely will get harder, A LOT harder).

Nonetheless, I think you're better off doing a subject you're passionate about than once that'll get you scaled up.
2018-English, Chinese SL, Chemistry, Physics, Maths Methods and Specialist

2019- Hug trees and hopefully do something related to Environmental science @ UniMelb

Just a FYI - VCE PE is pretty much nothing like PE in the Year 7-10 space. Majority is sports science theory and barely any prac (only to complement theory).

Think about that before you choose it.

IMO Physics would probably be a better fit for your overall objectives + career ambitions in the long run.

Thanks! I'm not too fond of Electricity and Motion but I don't straight-up hate it. I will most likely be able to cope with and might even enjoy after a while haha.

Thanks Aaron! I am aware that VCE PE is pretty much nothing like years 7-10 PE, but I feel that I actually enjoy learning about sports science and the body. It does seem like an interesting subject.

So the conclusion I have come to now is that I will do Physics, as well as Specialist Maths, and won't choose PE. Like you both said, PE doesn't really seem like it would be relevant to my career choice, and I would be better off doing Physics. Thanks to both of you guys! Really appreciate the help. :)

Seems like you may have already made up your mind, GalacticProcess, so I won't bore you with which subjects you should or shouldn't take, I just wanted to say this:

It can be really good to do a subject that is a bit different - it makes you think differently, and can be a refreshing change in your timetable :)
If you're considering going into a health sciences sort of field, I can attest that PE will help give you a bit of background knowledge and understanding. It's not completely theory based - all my friends who did PE seemed to be doing prac pretty often :) It also has a bit of an overlap with some Bio content.

In terms of any subject, particularly Spesh - why not give it a shot in year 11, then if you hate it, or really struggle with it, you can drop it and change into a different subject. :) The great thing about year 11 is it gives you a bit of room to safely figure out more about what you want to do/what you enjoy.

All the best :)

You're just everywhere aren't you Galactic?  ;)
If you want to do PE, then do PE. But I would recommend doing Physics and Spesh together. Like the others have said, they have a lot in common. My older sister is doing Specialist right now without Physics and she's been struggling with the kinematics section because it's all stuff about motion. But of course, you don't really HAVE to do anything. If you're good at maths, then Spesh might be your thing. It's difficult and a high workload but it scales very generously  ;D ;D

What if I told you everything WERE easy? and that I WILL stay on here forEVER?

Hey! I actually just submitted my subject preferences and chose Spesh and Physics. I put down PE as a reserve as well as HHD.

What you said in your last paragraph is exactly what I'm going to do actually. If I don't like Spesh or Physics in year 11, I'll just drop it and choose PE 3/4, as my friend has said it's not that hard to pickup. Thanks for the help!

Hey quinn!
I did actually choose Physics and Spesh together haha. I guess it will help with some topics later on, and that's exactly what some of my school teachers were saying. Thanks quinn! :)

If you think you'll enjoy PE, then I'd definitely recommend taking it.
It's especially good if you play a sport as you can link it with your studies. It's very interest IMO learning about energy systems etc :)
