- Ugh finally finished with my Methods guide. Was more exhausting than Psych....
- School starting in less than a week now....at least we only have Tuesday, Wednesday and half of Thursday because of parent-teacher interviews  ;D
- Last week my grandparents came! It was really nice to have both of them over after so long (the last time I've seen my grandpa was when I was 9)
- Still have holiday homework to complete lol

That guide is amazing! Thanks so much for doing it! <3
The holidays fly by so quickly, but I'm super glad you have a shortened week next week! ;D
Hope the holiday homework gets finished before Tues! :)

14/4/17

The holidays have gone extremely quickly. I have been happy with the amount of work that I have completed. Feeling ready to tackle term 2.

At this stage of the year, it's difficult to say how I'm going, given that I only have the result of one SAC. However, I'm not feeling too overwhelmed or stressed, which is absurd for me.

It's been a while since I posted anything for my journal. Holidays went by so fast and school is going to start soon. On Tuesday I'm going to have my English creative oral SAC, which I'm not very confident about (I'm not very good at orals), so I have to start cramming for that. I'm also probably going to get my specialist SAC back on Tuesday, which I thought I did average on, so I'm not sure what to expect. Overall holidays have been a good mix of relaxation and studying, so it's been pretty enjoyable.

Is Tuesday your first day back? Pretty harsh having a SAC straight up!

Yea, Tuesday is my first day back. I think we're having SACs the first day back, since we miss 2 days because of athletics and 1 or 2 days because of parent teacher interviews and we miss a couple more days because of other stuff. So, we really need to start hammering through SACs and coursework now or we will fall behind.

After recieving 90%'s all throughout term 1 i was devastated with my performance on the maths SAC because I just did not have enough time to get a thorough understanding of SO much content (six chapters of a 13 chapter text book had to be learned in six weeks!). I got 53%, the lowest mark i have ever recieved on anything. What can i do to recover? Can I still save my maths mark?

Hey, dani.eric!

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with your result.

I think receiving 90%s all throughout Term 1 indicates that you truly do have the capabilities to do well - and you should take this result with a grain of salt. Like, I know that it's super disappointing, and probably nothing I say right now will change the fact that it's disappointing, but that's okay. From my understanding (happy to be corrected here - only did Further), all maths subjects are weighted toward the exams. And even within the SAC component, you can't really read too much into it, because SAC results will be moderated by VCAA etc.

Can you "save" your maths mark? Yeah, absolutely. There's really nothing stopping you aside from your future performances, and they're primarily in your own hands. :) So that should be comforting.

What I would advise from this point on, though, is to work out why you lost those marks in the first place. You said you didn't really have time to prepare, which is fair enough - six chapters in six weeks is brutal. But do you think you could have done anything differently? Did you lose marks on silly mistakes?

Don't lose hope, because this story has been told so many times before. Disappointed with a SAC mark early in the year? Cool - students in your shoes in years gone by have gone on to achieve a 50. This is for English, but this article may be of interest.

All the best! :)

Right now it feels too calm and relaxed. It's probably because I have only have two days of actual school this week and the same for next week. But I know that in probably 3 to 4 weeks SACs will start rolling in and also around June my school has a SAC week where basically instead of mid year exams, we just get SACs for every subject, which is basically the entire week. Also, I'm waiting to get my specialist result back, which I expect to get back soon.

How are you finding the workload compared to previous years?

Its obviously much heavier. And you have to be really self disciplined and motivated so trying to study evreyday consistently  for most parts is quite tough

Transition from year 11 to 12 is 10000x easier than 10 to 11.

As I've matured, I have realized the difference in public and private school education on a VCE level. Once upon a time I was under the impression that I could get the same education from a government school in comparison to a private school. However in my final years the truth has been made clear;

Public school sector will give you the information and utensils you need in order to succeed but it is very much so a self driven journey. I have found that my teachers have a great understanding of the course but will only deliver the bare minimum. I'm also under the impression that Public school classes are marginally bigger than private school classes. Extra information, but the HS I am currently residing at is actually classed as a rural disadvantageous public school.

So in all honesty this has me super stressed going through VCE, I really want to do well but often find my self feeling like there isn't enough hours in the day for me to do say. This brings on a range of implications;

1. I find myself being late to school often, take this scenario as an explanation. I get home from school around 7:30pm (Commute), eat dinner and do my thing then study for the rest of the evening until I have everything done. I might finish at 11:30, from there I will set an alarm for 8 hours later (I believe getting the right amount of sleep is a key to success), now sometime this alarm goes off at 7:30 and I can get to school on time, other times it might be going off at 8:50. In that case I will be getting to school halfway through period 1. Luckily for me the teachers don't really bat an eye lid at my lateness, partially because I'm always up to date or ahead, I believe it's because I share good relationships with them though.

2. I find my self waking up on 7:30 on weekend and seriously doing 6 hours of pen to paper studying at least, sometime more.. I find that I'm often cancelling social events, don't go to any parties etc etc. At least the weekend offers me this feeling of actually having enough hours in my day to do what I want.

Most of this is self induced stress, but I have high aspirations in regards to my study scores, simply things like wanting to finish the Methods and spesh course before the end of the term.

TLDR: VCE has me stressed to say the very least, it has me disappointed with the quality of teacher at government funded schools, and in the essence mildly isolated from the rest of my friends.

So what were your immediate thoughts to my comment?

*Disclaimer, I know some Public schools have great teaches, and good for you I'm totally happy, but it's not the case on my end.
