Getting your first preference on allocate + ...?

Hey

So I've put in my preferences on allocate +, I've made sure my first preferences don't clash with eachother and I made all my other preferences clash - does this mean I'll get my first preference? If not, how do I make sure I get the timetable I planned out on MUTTS? I really dont want to end up with a horrible timetable :O

you are almost certain to get your first preference as long as the percentage is below 100%

on the day the timetables are released just log into allocate and mutts and you can switch your timetable around this time its first in best dressed for the filling of classes.

however making all your other preferenes clash will not benefit you.
the timetabling system will give you your 2nd/3 etc  preference regardless of whether it clashes or not,

False. Allocate will never give you a preference that clashes (with a lecture). The algorithm also seems to prefer giving people as many first preferences as possible rather than the 4th, 5th... So there is some benefit there.

Just wait and see what your timetable looks like, and change around class times when you can?

Allocate+ will generate clashes if there's no possible combination that will result in a non-clash timetable. It also sort of screws up your preferences when that happens.

On top of that, you can actually email your faculty and request for a clashing timetable with valid reasons. They happily did it for me two semesters ago.

I switched my tutorial that clashed with a lecture to another timeslot that also clashes with a lecture. The only difference is the latter is recorded while the former isn't.

My friend also made a request for a clash last semester when his tutorial interfered with his training schedule (he's part of the Monash athlete program)

So long as you have a convincing case the faculty will agree to your requests.
