For study score prediction what is a “strong” cohort? How do you know the sacs will scale up? For example I go to a school whose median study score is 33 and has floated between 60-80th school in vic in the past few years. Although now it’s a bit higher than that. What would you (hypothetically) say about this?

I would say your cohort is likely to be well above average. However, the strength of the cohort can't really be based upon the school on it's own as the strength would differ for every subject. Although, the school strength is usually a good predictor of a cohort strength.

You can never be certain whether your sacs will scale up. It depends on the raw scores of the sacs for your cohort and your cohorts performance on the exam. In the instance, you have a so-called "strong" cohort with teacher's making easy sacs and a lot of people scoring high 90s and 100's it is possible sacs could scale down for some.

Can someone possibly predict my score for the below,

Business Management:
Unit 3 average 87%
Unit 4 average hopefully also 85%
Exam: 85%-90%
Rank 1-5 in a relatively strong cohort of around 75 students (we had 50s and high 40s last year)
Thanks!
Hi! I was very similar pre-exam with an exam score in the low 80s and ended up with a 42 (although my cohort was quite strong so it hardly scaled down).

Also needs strength or otherwise of your cohort, and ranking, for a decent idea.

Well i don't know about ranking but for every subject other than environmental science all have a relatively strong cohort but enviro has a medium cohort

Out of curiosity - I'm near the top of a relatively strong Texts and Traditions cohort, with an average of ~85% at the moment. Would it be hypothetically possible for me to get a 50 in this subject if I somehow managed to pick up my game drastically?

I’ve received my final U3 SAC for english and my overall average is only 78% this is in a moderate to week cohort and I am above the average but not by much.

If I average 85% in unit 4 (only worth 20%) and get 45/60 on the exam is a 40 STILL possible?

yeah I think it is still possible but a 40 from a 45/60 exam score would need your sacs to scale up a bit

What about 48-50/60 assuming sacs don’t scale.

Also Because it’s just a ranking and I am ranked nth. What if the nth exam score is much lower than my 78% does that mean I can end up getting much lower than the letter grade ‘A’ this usually is?

Hello ANers!

I have received my final SAC scores for the year and I was wondering what scores I am heading towards. For context, my school is a high ranking school with a median SS of like 35 so yeah haha.

Further
Data Analysis - A+ (my school did not give out numerical grades but I think I got 95%)
- the average was a B (70-75%)
Financial - 92.5% (I don't know the average)
Networks - 100% (Again, I don't know the average)
I don't know the ranks but I am pretty sure I am top 3-5 out of a strong cohort of 50. The further SACs have been quite straightforward except for Data Analysis which was very broad.

I am hoping for full marks for exams but I was wondering what scores I need to get a 45+.

Methods
Unit 3 - A+ (my school did not give out numerical grades but I think I got 85%)
- the average was apparently a C
Calculus - 85%
Again, I don't know ranks but I am pretty sure I am top 5 out of 50 in a pretty strong cohort. My schools SACs for Methods are extremely challenging and quite ambiguous at times.

What exams scores are required for a 40? 45? What SS would I get with a 95% Exam 1 score and an 85% Exam 2 score?

Thank you!

Definitely a better chance at a 40, potentially even higher for a 50/60.

Yeah, it is possible for your sacs to scale down. However, the idea that an nth A exam score results in an nth rank getting an A is not completely true. Same goes for the actual sac score. There is a lot more standardisation that takes place than just nth exam score = 80 thus nth sac score = 80. Both a bit of oversimplification but still get the correct idea though.

For instance, last year 14% of students got A+'s for unit 3 and 14% of students got A+'s for unit 4. So around mid-A and above on the exam correlated to an A+ sac. However, the letter grade actually has little relevance it is more about where you sit in relation to the cohort given each letter grade is a spectrum. So a high A could be virtually identical to a low A+ and a low A when compared to a high A+ is about 20+ marks apart.

for those who want to calculate their study score:

https://atar-calculator.deakin.edu.au/vce-study-score-calculator/
I've had multiple people that have finished year 12 put in their grades and it be COMPLETLY off with only 1 person saying it came out in the ballpark of their score. So take this calc with a grain of salt :)
