Running out of time in methods and spec exams?

Hi guys, i havent been going that well with timing

What's something that i should always try and write in my answer to get at least a mark? Like something examiners always wanna see

And what should i do when i dont understand the question at all but dont wanna leave it blank?

it will depend on the exact question

just look at what the question is generally assessing and write a couple of formulas down or just slightly start the question without finishing if you are running out of time to get partial marks.

For probability questions indicating what distribution you would use is usually a point eg. X~Bi(10,0.2)  or X~N(3,4)
For graphical questions writing the first step of the process in functional notation   eg. f'(x) = 0   may also earn you a mark.

I dont know if this will help but one way i fixed my timing for my english essays was making sure that i finished my intro in 5 min, another para in 10min etc.
Obviously its different with maths but you could make sure that you only spend 2-3 min on the smaller questions and 5-6min on the longers ones by checking the time every so often.

do u think i should skip a question mid working out if i go overtime even if ik how to get the answer?

don't skip a question that you know how do to that's just giving away easy marks. Make sure that they move on from questions you don't know how to do quickly without wasting 10-20mins. Come back to them later when you have finished everything else.

That's not true.
They can be hard to finish on time (and this depends on the person) but definitely not impossible

I’d say the difficulty of some questions is the larger factor why people don’t finish, not the length of time available. Some questions are genuinely tailored to be unapproachable by a significant portion of the state and instead are intended to separate the top ~10% of students.

nah not really but I would estimate a lot of people don't "finish" the exam. Although this would depend on someones definition of finishing an exam - either completing every question to one's full potential or seeing every question and completing the ones they know how to.

As long as you keep writing and don't stop you will probably finish (obviously their will be some separator questions which <5% of the state get correct and a lot of people won't be able to "finish" them)
