application of calculus to the physical world

hi all,
I'm having difficulty starting the working out for these questions
If anyone could explain it or answer any question, it would be really appreciated
and please let me know if any of these questions are similar to each other so I can do almost the same working out

Seeing as though you posted a lot all at once, can you tell us what you have attempted so far? Or alternatively pick a question to focus on first?

i did q1 but I didn't include that in the screenshot.
Maybe we could just start with 2, i might try to go along with the same working for the qs that follow

Especially given how much of a bait similar triangles can be, diagrams are mandatory for questions like these.

Edit: The green bit on the right should probably say 1 + 1/2 instead
