doing 2nd language for 7th subject is a bad choice?

Im doing Hindi 1/2, 5 other 1/2 and software development 3/4. At this rate i reckon ill score ~20 in Hindi because i started it half way through year 9.
Is there a point to having it as a back up if it will probably not reach my top 6 subjects? or does the score of second language work differently? or should I drop a subject and continue second language?

What 1/2 subjects are you doing? Do you enjoy them or Hindi more. I would personally suggest dropping a subject as a workload of 7 is very high. However, I would drop whichever subject you enjoy the least. The subject you enjoy the least you will probably not want to study for and therefore get a lower score.

In terms of scoring, languages have the same base of raw scores as all other subjects, however there is pretty good scaling. I think this is due to the government wanting to encourage the study of LOTEs in VCE.

For Hindi, it scales up by about 4-6, which is pretty good if you enjoy the subject and are willing to work at it. Languages require a lot of consistent work in order to improve, but it is definitely worth it :)

Basically, drop the subject you enjoy the least if you are finding the workload too high, or maybe consider keeping all of your subjects this year and drop your least favourite next year!

I think that's too much, I don't think a 'back up' subject is totally necessary.
