I do, I listen to music of great majesticness such as Tchaikovsky, and it helps me feel awesome while I do schoolwork of any kind

I would not recommend listening to music when studying, as I find it sort of makes your mind float and even though you breeze your way through work, at the end you won't feel that you've absorbed the information properly. Try listening to music while doing homework and then the next time don't. You might notice like I did that I absorbed the information more without music.

I did, sometimes, kinda. Anything with lyrics was a no go for me, but in noisy environments, I often found that electronic or instrumental "concentration" music would really help block out surrounding noise and let me get in a 'zone' of sorts, where the music kind of sunk into the background and I was able to focus completely on what I was doing. However, sometimes I just found it annoying and distracting, depending on how I was feeling I guess. I'd recommend trying music (a few different types) as well as silence/no music, and go for whichever one helps you keep focus. :)

It depends a lot.
While doing homework - if I thought it wasn't particularly valuable I would listen to whatever
While doing practice assessments -  definite no
While doing other study - sometimes instrumental/study music

Great point, definitely wouldn't recommend listening during practice assessments, as it's really valuable to simulate the examination conditions (which means no music!)

While I don't listen to anything when I have to write essays or practice papers, I find classical music- especially Chopin's to help me not drift off when I'm writing notes, doing maths or anything that I find pretty boring to study for lol

I do it sometimes. If there is a lot of noise around me I definitely listen to music. If it is quiet I try not too, as it is much easier to focus, especially when working on complicated concepts and problems.

The type of music I listen to when studying is almost always country (Willie Nelson, John Denver) as I find something special about this music. Maybe its because it's not loud and distracting, or maybe because it is what they are singing about (the landscape etc.). Whatever it is, it certainly does help

I will listen to music (with lyrics) during study/homework/assignments but during any serious prac exams my room would be silent.

Yeah same as Sine for me, will listen when doing any work, except prac sacs/ exams.

I listen to music with lyrics, but will usually have maybe one song playing on repeat so I don't think about it too much.

When I listen to music, it has to be either instrumental or with sadder, quieter lyrics. I feel like I can retain information better when listening to instrumental, classical piano or orchestral music. Otherwise it's extremely distracting for me. I don't get people who can listen to heavy metal when studying? Doesn't that just make you angry and hateful about whatever? Je ne comprende pas.

I used to listen to that one 'lofi beats to relax and study to' live stream (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qap5aO4i9A) religiously, but recently I've enjoyed doing my work in silence?? I think I was used to studying in silence at school and I'm trying to emulate that at home  :P

Sometimes if I'm feeling particularly unmotivated I'll bust out a motivating soundtrack (99% of the time it's the haikyuu OSTs)

We need to talk about how motivational Haikyuu's music is. My sister and I have been working out to the music from the anime and I literally feel like I'm getting more ripped by the day.

Oh my god, finally someone who gets it. I literally worked out to it this morning. Yűki Hayashi is a genius and I honestly love every song from the series.

Just noticed this thread and since I have a bit of a devil's advocate opinion I'll mention it.

I loved listening to music while studying during VCE, and have continued that trend into Uni. I'd do pretty much all my work with some music going, taking notes, reading the textbook, going over practice questions. The only time I wouldn't use music is when I was doing practice SACs/Exams in a timed scenario in order to mirror exam conditions.

However, I think the 'there's no noise in an actual exam' is a moot point. I know for two of my exams there was blasting rain and hail, and for plenty of my SACs it was the case also.

It's ultimately up to the individual but don't be discouraged by people telling you not to if you find it effective. People did the same to me and I still listened to lyrical music, and it worked pretty well.
