Hi K888
How did you find the whole moving out process? Is there anything you'd do differently if you could do it again, or any advice you'd give to people looking to move out?
How have you found studying at the Monash Peninsula campus?
Do you follow any soccer teams? If so, which ones? Is there any particular reason(s) you support them?
Hey!
Moving out - it was really exciting for me! The biggest drag was that first grocery shop, when I had to stock up my pantry with the essentials - still the most expensive grocery shop I've done. My advice to people would be - think of the utensils you take for granted at home before you move out. Like can openers, egg flips, wooden spoons, peelers, strainers and the like. Because you won't get too far with cooking if you don't have those haha.
Another tip is that op shops are great for picking up stuff like crockery and drinkware for cheap (and they usually come in matching sets because the old people who donate their stuff to op shops love matching sets
). Don't buy expensive stuff because you'll be upset if you drop it and it smashes (which is guaranteed to happen).
The Peninsula campus is great - it's small, quiet, and is nice and leafy so it reminds me of home a bit. It only took me 1 day to learn where everything was and how to navigate around, and there's always a free seat in the library. If you want a really hectic uni experience it might not be for you, but I love it. I go to Clayton once a week for anatomy and it's wayyyyyy too busy for me haha.
Soccer teams - absolutely! I support Melbourne Victory in the A-League, and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
I support Victory because they were the only Melbourne-based team in the A-League when it started (and I'd never jump ship #onlyoneteaminmelbourne). Borussia Dortmund - idk how I started supporting them, I think I just started watching some of their games and really got into it. And then I got a favourite player, and he plays for them, so that's my story of supporting them haha.
Aside from that I like watching a lot of other leagues but I don't really support any teams in those leagues.
Favourite Melb Victory player?
Do you prefer KMart or BigW?
Favourite part of physio so far?
1. Hmm, tough one - can I name past players? If so, definitely Marco Rojas. Absolute class player.
2. Kmart. This isn't even a question
3. Favourite part - hard to say. I think first year in general was great - I really loved musculoskeletal physio as a whole, so that was great. Perhaps some of the best stuff has been outside of uni - the events I've been able to go to because I'm a physio student. I went to a seminar last year on sports medicine which covered a heap of different topics (and was hosted by two legends in sports medicine) and featured a lot of world-known names in sports medicine. I also went to a seminar on shoulder instability led by a really experienced shoulder surgeon and a specialist shoulder physio. Both were amazing and taught me so much!
Money-wise, how difficult is it living away from home as a uni student?
I'm lucky enough that my parents still support me in terms of paying for my rent, but I have a job so I support myself with all my other expenses - groceries, petrol, etc. It's definitely a bit of an adjustment going from living at home where you don't have to pay for groceries and cook meals for yourself to being solely responsible for buying your groceries, paying for petrol and all that. It's not all that bad, though - it makes you more fiscally responsible and you realise quickly that there's a huge difference between what you
want and what you
need! It takes practice, but it's definitely doable.
