As you know, it's an ATAR Notes tradition to hold an end-of-year awards ceremony. The basic idea is to acknowledge everybody (not just those who receive awards or who are explicitly mentioned) who contributed to ATAR Notes in that given year. Ultimately, without all of you, ATAR Notes just... wouldn't be ATAR Notes haha.

But it's important, too, to recognise past winners, for each and every one of the members below has made a significant and meaningful contribution to this community of ours. This thread will serve that very purpose!

The 2013 AN Awards
In the first AN Awards since 2010, more than 100 votes were counted. lzxnl was voted the 2013 MVP, with an Honourable Mention being awarded to lollymatron. lzxnl is still active to this day, and has amassed more than 3,000 posts since joining ATAR Notes in June 2012. The Class of 2013 MVP was awarded to Alwin, who is now one of our most experienced ATAR Notes lecturers. Other prolific winners included brenden (English Most Helpful, Most Insightful/Wise, Most Supportive/Motivating) and pi (IRC MVP, Admissions Test Most Helpful, Funniest Member, Scariest Moderator), who now have more than 20,000 posts between them.

The 2014 AN Awards
2014 was literally lauren's year, voted AN MVP. Stick was awarded an Honourable Mention. In his opening post, Brenden summed it up nicely: "Lauren probably won all the awards anyway (inc. the ones she wasn't nominated for)." It was a decent prediction, too, because she also picked up the English Most Helpful award. Zealous won the 2014 MVP award, and is also one of our best-known lecturers. Brenden backed up the Most Insightful/Most Supportive double, whilst keltingmeith picked up Maths Most Supportive and Science Most Supportive.

The 2015 AN Awards
In 2015, it was all about the #bangalibandwagon, as heids took home the ATAR Notes MVP. She was also voted Health and PE Most Helpful, Most Insightful and Most Supportive in what was a pretty incredible year personally. Orb was given an Honourable Mention for both overall MVP and Class of 2015 MVP. zsteve - possibly our best-known current lecturer - took out the 2015 MVP award.

The 2016 AN Awards
For the first time, and very excitingly, the 2016 AN Awards covered both Victoria and New South Wales. Our 2016 MVPs were zsteve and ssarahj respectively. heids was again voted Most Supportive and Most Insightful, whilst Swagadaktal was deemed the funniest member. In an upset for the ages, Ask Monash University was awarded Most Helpful in the University of Melbourne Boards (thanks, Alter).

The 2017 AN Awards
2017 was a huge year for ATAR Notes - both Victoria and New South Wales, with great development in both states. The Victorian MVP was K888, with Jess1113 taking out the NSW iteration. It was a strong year with many deserving winners, reflected by several Honourable Mentions. sudodds pipped Calebark for Funniest Member by the smallest of margins (hehe), whilst elysepopplewell was deemed Most Insightful. In his last full year as a National Moderator, Aaron picked up Scariest Mod - nice work, dude!

Since February 2017, we have also recognised the Members of the Month for both Victoria and New South Wales. Throughout each calendar month of the year, Moderators select a user that has been helpful, friendly, and contributes to the positive vibes of ATAR Notes overall. What does this mean, exactly? Well:

- Answering questions on subject boards;
- Creating great discussion threads (education-related or otherwise);
- Helping out new users;
- Writing guides (whether that be subject-specific, uni-related or whatever else);
- Being a generally top-end person.

The inaugural winners were kiwiberry in New South Wales, and Shadowxo, who were both ATAR Notes Moderators less than a year later. A complete list of winners can be found below:

PAST NSW WINNERS:
Spoiler
2017: kiwiberry (inaugural), rodero, sssona09, MisterNeo, Wales, dancing phalanges, Opengangs, fantasticbeasts3, blasonduo, potatohater, Mada438.

PAST VIC WINNERS:
Spoiler
2017: Shadowxo (inaugural), Syndicate, cookiedream, Quantum44, zhen, VanillaRice, GalacticProcess, miniturtle, clarke54321, AngelWings, PhoenixxFire.

Don't you just love how the NSW inaugral winner eventually became a lecturer?

The ATAR Notes Hall of Fame || Inductees 19-22 Announced 🎉🎉🎉

At time of writing, ATAR Notes recently turned ten years old, and has never been in a better position than it is right now. The AN Community is thriving across two states, and hopefully more in the future. The current crop of users is the closest I've ever seen, and we're welcoming new members into the Community literally every day - this is my favourite part of it all.

But it's very, very important to recognise the multitude of contributions made by members of yesteryear - the users who set up ATAR Notes, saw it develop, and fostered it in such a way that where we are now is possible. We should recognise these members for their tireless and selfless contributions to the Community, even if some of these names are unfamiliar to you at first. I guess that's the point - we don't want them to be unfamiliar. They should be written in the history of ATAR Notes forever, and that's why we're establishing the:

🎉 ATAR Notes Hall of Fame 🎉

I am extremely excited to give each of the inaugural members the recognition they deserve. There are 22 inaugural members, and each of these will be presented over the next couple of weeks.

Our very first inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame is Eriny. Eriny was the 26th ever member of ATAR Notes, which is impressive considering there are more than 210,000 members at time of writing. Eriny made almost 3,000 posts across ~six years of activity, contributing primarily in the Victorian Education Discussion and Rants and Politics boards.

Eriny's first post was the very first reply to the very first thread in ATAR Notes' history, highlighting their presence right from the beginning of the site. Based on that post, you can see how far ATAR Notes has come:

Brainstorm: over the summer, do you think it would be a good idea to work on a group project type thing where there is a website for each (well, probably not every) VCE subject with course/exam advice and overviews of all the vital knowledge and stuff like a study guide, maybe even practise exams created by past high-achieving students? Even if it were free, the ad space would collect some money...

Anyway, that was my random outburst for today.

ALSO, get a lot of the screenshot provided in this Eriny-made thread. 😂 How times have changed! Eriny was included as one of the first batch of Honorary Moderators in May 2013 after moderating the site for a long period.

So, please join me in welcoming our very first Hall of Fame inductee: Eriny.

Our second Hall of Fame inductee is EvangelionZeta, who has their ten year anniversary on ATAR Notes later on this year. EvangelionZeta made their first post in late 2008, and their last post (at the moment ;)) some eight years later, so their ~2,500 posts have come across a very long period.

The majority of EvangelionZeta's posts have come in the Victorian Education Discussion, VCE English & EAL and Other General Discussion boards, but Literature was also a favourite - no surprise considering their Premier's Award in the subject! One of their first threads was organising ATAR Notes (then VCE Notes) karaoke - yep, you heard right! ;D See here.

EvangelionZeta was one of ATAR Notes' first moderators. They became a National Moderator in late 2009 (just a year after their first post), and has held the role of Honorary Moderator - like Eriny - since May 2013.

So, please join me in welcoming our second Hall of Fame inductee: EvangelionZeta.

Like Eriny, Fyrefly is one of ATAR Notes' very first members. In fact, member #23, joining literally the day after the site was established. In the decade since, Fyrefly has made more than 4,500 posts, with more than 400 posts in each of the Monash University, Other General Discussion and Victorian Education Discussion boards. At time of writing, this places Fyrefly #14 on the list of all-time posters - a truly mammoth effort. They were still well and truly active until the end of 2015.

FyreFly handed over the position of National Moderator in May 2013 and, like our first two inductees, have held the position of Honorary Moderator ever since.

So, please join me in welcoming our third Hall of Fame inductee: Fyrefly.

Gloamglozer is our fourth inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame, and a very deserving one. Gloamglozer joined the forums in late 2008, and made their first post soon the next year. Their second ever post noted their subjects in the thread "VNers doing VCE '09" - quite a while ago now (the site was even called "VCE Notes"!).

Over their time on ATAR Notes, Gloamglozer was most active on the University of Melbourne board. However, they were also prolific in the VTAC Discussion board, and had the pertinent custom title "The Walking VTAC Guide". At time of writing, Gloamglozer's most recent post was three years ago, but their impact on the community was and has been considerable; they were ever helpful, with great threads like this one.

Gloamglozer was a National Moderator from December 2009 until May 2013, and has held the position of Honorary Moderator since that time.

So, please join me in welcoming our fourth Hall of Fame inductee: Gloamglozer.

Our fifth inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame is the legendary Mao.

With more than 9,000 posts to their name, Mao is currently the third most prolific poster of all time, behind only TrueTears and pi. Coupled with the fact that Mao was one of the first contributors to the site, joining less than a month after its inception, Mao's place in the Hall of Fame is well-deserved. In their time on ATAR Notes, Mao also created a mammoth 330 threads: the second most of all time.

Mao was most prolific in the VCE Maths Methods and, especially VCE Chemistry boards, with a huge 2,000 posts combined just across those boards. This makes Mao one of the site's biggest ever contributors to our VCE maths and science boards, which is considerable when you think of all of the contributors who have come and gone across the years.

Mao was a National Moderator for just under a year, and became an Honorary Moderator in February 2014.

So, please join me in welcoming our fifth Hall of Fame inductee: Mao.

Number six? Russ, who has been a constant ever since I joined ATAR Notes, and is still relatively active on the forums. 👌

Russ has the fourth most posts of all time (at the moment, at least (#Jamon)), many of which have been in the University of Melbourne, VCE Biology and General University Discussion boards.

Russ made one of our most upvoted threads of all time, titled "Medicine FAQ / So You Want To Be A Doctor". This is definitely worth a read if you're considering or currently studying medicine.

AND Russ was the one who started what has since become ATAR Notes' most successful thread. Ever. Namely, the UoM General Chat thread, which now currently has 17,850 replies and 2,083,507 views. Absolutely absurd!

Russ has also provided an older head for numerous batches of new moderators, and has done a stellar job in always providing perspective and balanced reasoning. Russ was a National Moderator for several years before becoming an Honorary Moderator in May 2013.

So, please join me in welcoming our sixth Hall of Fame inductee: Russ.

Joined: June 3, 2008
Member #: 1,490
Posts (28/02/18): 4,331
Respect (28/02/18): +250

Our seventh Hall of Fame inductee is shinny, who, despite having not posted in 4.5 years, is still comfortably in the top 20 posters of all time. shinny was most prolific in the VCE English, Victorian Education Discussion and VCE Biology boards, but was also a great presence across the Methods, Chemistry and Spesh boards, demonstrating a wide breadth and involvement in the site.

shinny joined ATAR Notes in mid-2008, and went on to win the site-wide MVP in 2010: an award recently won by the likes of literally lauren, heids, zsteve, K888 and Jess1113. Their very first post was in June, 2008, helping out with VCE Biology (holding a raw 49 study score the year prior):

just following on from what he said, i did bio last yr (and  got less than him, but ill just say not much less =P) and yeh, hes dead on with the advice

after doing many practise exams, ull start to find the same questions repeating over and over again, and u DEFINITELY should prepare generic answers for these that would get full marks somewhere and memorise ur wording for them as it saves u ALOT of time during the exam. with the not doing exams under time conditions, i didnt do that either near the end because there are so many practise bio exams available since the course hasnt changed that much recently that its almost impossible to do every single one...so what i did was pretty much on the last day, do the multi choice, think about the short answer quetions in my head, and then read the solutions for about 25 (yes i had 25 spare). this saves ALOT of time and gives u a much greater exposure to the types of questions that will come up, and particularly if ur not too good at the application of theory, then just exposing urself to the sorts of questions that can come up is quite useful

In total, shinny spent nearly 200 days in total on ATAR Notes - a mammoth effort, and one to be recognised.

So, please join me in welcoming our seventh Hall of Fame inductee: shinny.

To put the impact of TrueTears in context, I have a friend who hasn't used ATAR Notes in 7-8 years, and remembers nothing of it bar TrueTears' help. That's pretty incredible if you think about it, and is part of the reason why TrueTears is our eighth inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame.

I'm honestly not even sure where to start with TT. At time of writing, 16,344 posts. That's only ~400 posts less than Jamon, Brenden and Lauren combined. TrueTears is the most prolific poster on ATAR Notes of all time: ~2,000 posts ahead of the next best, and ~7,000 posts ahead of #3. Just think about that for a moment!

+640 respect. And that's respect accumulated before the recent respect inflation - very, very commendable indeed.

Almost 2,000 posts in the VCE Methods board alone. ~1,300 in VCE Spesh. ~1,000 in VCE Maths. ~700 in Physics. ~600 in Chemistry.

TrueTears has literally helped thousands and thousands and thousands of VCE students. I guess the funny thing is that TrueTears' first post was actually asking for math help. I like that; it really demonstrates the cyclical nature of ATAR Notes. People like TrueTears are a huge part of why and how ATAR Notes can continue to exist.

TrueTears was a National Moderator from late 2009 until May 2013, and has been an Honorary Moderator since. And the best bit is that, almost ten years later, TrueTears is still around! ;D

So, please join me in welcoming our eighth Hall of Fame inductee: TrueTears.
