My cockatiel likes to sit on my head, on my shoulder and fly around the house everyday.

Wasn't sneezed on by a two-year-old today. Beats last week. :)

Winter solstice in Belgrave.  Was a lot of fun: Inventive lanterns, fire dancing, circus acts, telescopes tuned to Jupiter and Saturn.  But cold (4 degrees and misty as I walked back home).

Nice one. Is this an annual event?

This is not mundane but I'll allow it ;)

Yes, it is. I overheard someone claiming it was the first one they had been to which wasn't raining :) [it did rain last year, but not much].

This is not mundane but I'll allow it ;)

Why, thank you for your gracious permission.
Yesterday I came third in a cupcake cooking competition at work. Mundane enough? ;)

Are cupcakes ever mundane? Haha. What did you make?

They looked pretty mundane - not to be compared with the Pikachu cupcakes made by a colleague. They tasted OK, though: Sticky date with caramel icing (basically, caramel sauce with added icing sugar...) [RECIPE]

It's Rare Books Week in Melbourne.  Time to hear about all the books that I'd really love to read but don't have make time for.  Some with beautiful covers, too (though now I do most of my reading on a Kindle).

Tonight was Juvenile Books of War, many of them suitably jingoistic, particularly early in the wars, and with the old-style covers.

I love the concept of the Christmas Truce, and there was a lovely tiny book with a Christmas Truce poem and some beautiful illustrations.  The poem itself with some of the illustrations is here (I also like the film Joyeux Noel - both because of the Christmas Truce, and because it has one of the most chilling sermons ever).

Then had the fun of bus replacement, heavy rain, hail, and a very close and bright flash of lightning just before I got home.  Generally just good times as only Melbourne can provide ;) .
