can someome give an appropriate definition for index fossil?

i have it is "a fossil which can be used to define and identify geological periods", but i believe that this is not quite good...

I define an index fossil as "fossils of short-lived species which are found in particular layers of strata"

:) Hope that helps

Would this be okay for a definition of natural selection:
when "phenotypes ideal for survival are enhanced in the oncoming generations by nature" ?

Natural selection:

fitter organism tend to survive longer and produce more offspring, thereby gradually increasing the frequency of "fit" traits in each subsequent generation.

Do we have to know about the processes involved in reproductive cloning?

hmmm I think the term "fit" is quite ambiguous so try not to use it in a definition. Depending on how you define fit, it can be physically fit or biologically fit.

Oh okay so you wouldn't really have to include the environment

For e.g how the organisms are biologically/physically fit in a particular environment ?

Or is that more to do with selection pressures?

What's the difference between the terms 'secreted ' and 'excreted'?

I thought excreted was used in reference to waste materials being released by a cell but I have read that paracrine hormones are excreted?

sweet.
Do protein based hormones trigger a faster response based on the fact that their receptors are located on the surface of the cell? Whereas lipid-soluble hormones have to travel within the cytosol and attach to the appropriate cytoplasmic receptor?

Also.. with blood typing, is Type O considered the universal donor because it possesses both antibody A and B in its plasma, but no antigens on its surface? Whereas AB is the universal recipient, because it possesses both antigens A and B on RBC's surface, with no A and B antibodies in plasma?

What are the functions of the antibodies in plasma though? Wait.. (im thinking while asking this)
Since Blood type A carries antibodies for B blood, and since A blood cannot be donated to someone with B blood... hmmm
So, if a blood type possesses antibodies for another blood type in its plasma, it cant be donated to it?

Confusing lol

For a VCAA exam an answer to a question of identifying a cell provided was 'B lymphocyte' however I wrote 'B cell'.
Is this still correct? I will be more specific next time, but if there was no next time, would it be correct? Thanks.

yes, it would still be correct. 'B lymphocyte' is just the fancier, and more complicated word for 'B cell', just like 'immunoglobulin' is the fancier, more complicated word for 'Antibody' :)
