Hey everyone!
I would really appreciate if someone who has already done a similar SAC could let me know how I can best prepare for the immunity SAC. All I know is that we have to make an annotated poster; we will be given images, then we have to put them in order and describe what is happening at each step. What sort of processes will we have to describe?
Also, if someone could please explain how the difference between MHC markers 1&2 and how they work that would be great! Thanks
Sounds similar to my SAC I did last week, although we needed to draw an antibody. Just make sure you're familiar with the 3 lines of defence, humoral and cell mediated immunity, how one can be treated, the forms of acquired immunity (diagram or flow chart) and specific terms/definitions.
As for MHC markers, the easiest difference to remember is that MHC type 1 is found on all cells with a nucleus (excluding red blood cells) whereas MHC type 2 is found on antigen presenting cells aka APC these include macrophages, dendritic cells, B-cells etc...
Note that Type 2 MHC markers are recognised by Helper T-cells henceforth stimulate an immune response.
Hope this helps!
