New VCE HESS subject starting 2015 run by UoM and Monash!
I don't know about everyone else, but I can't find anyone else doing the subject so I figured that a subforum dedicated to it would be nice. :)
2014: IT Applications [46] | Further Mathematics [41]
2015: English Language | Algorithmics | Software Development | Mathematical Methods (CAS)
Goal: Bachelor of Advanced Computing/Arts (Linguistics) @ ANU!

Definitely agree! Looking forward to seeing how other school's tackle the new VCE HESS subject compared to my school since it does sound interesting (but too complex for me :') Not to mention the bonuses with doing a HESS subject too!

EDIT: For those that are curious, it's similar to University Extension Studies except unlike how University Extension Studies only give you an increment towards your ATAR as well as university credit, HESS subjects like Algorithmics give university credit and can be counted in your Primary Four. Really nice I reckon!

This is really interesting (and the first i've heard about this). Can't wait to see the type of content.

Wow maybe I should repeat VCE. This subject looks right down my alley :)

Is this the first HESS type subject? The concept of them are neato!
2014: 99.95
Tutoring Methods and Spesh. PM me for info.

Yeah it's the very first HESS type subject and they'll be looking to add a few more over the years depending on how Algorithmics goes :) Apparently in terms of scaling, it'll scale similarly to Specialist Maths/Languages from what I've heard from teachers (but let's just wait till the end of next year to find out :P )

I'm also doing the subject and don't know anyone, I would love to have a subforum for it!

Hey guys. How is algorithmics? I'm currently in year 11 wanting to do it next year over distance ed. Is it hard? I am pretty good at coding.

Algorithmics contains university level computer science theory which involves quite a bit of mathematics. I can confirm this because I have just completed a computer science subject that is essentially the equivalent of this subject @ 2nd year uni level. Have you taken a look at the study design to see the content it covers? It would be really ideal if you had a strong maths background too. The link that Ned Nerb has posted above is the Algorithmics subforum, so that would be a better place to post.

For your reference, the study design is here: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/vce/algorithmics/AlgorithmicsSD-2015.pdf

I've had a look at the study design. I'm doing 1+2 Methods and finding it pretty easy, I know how to code an android app pretty well with Google's material design guidelines. I'm already doing further maths now and probably will get over 35 Study score depending on how I go on the exam. I'm going to be doing Algorithmics over Distance Education. I want a career in software engineering. What do I have to do now to prepare for Algorithmics(math or programming wise)? Thanks

One of my friends interested to it. I do think it's very hard for me. Good luck!
