Hey guys, as the title reads do you think it would be beneficial to complete the content beforehand or wait to cover it during classes? (This is unit 1&2). Opinions would be appreciated.

I don't think it's necessary for 1/2. Just complete the set holiday homework.

No way - no need - you can easily get by without having learnt all the course material of 1/2.

What about 3/4?

for unit 1/2, don't think you need to pre-learn stuff :P Most of the stuff is probs introductory :D

for unit 3/4, it depends on the subject, and your abilities etc. eg. Do you think it's possible to learn it yourself? Do you have the motivation to do so? Do you think they'll be enough time etc etc . Might be boring/painful trying to self learn chem/bio by just reading the textbook...

but if you enjoy learning these subjects, by all means go ahead :)

No, you will forget a lot of it and it isn't honestly an efficient use of your time. The VCE course is designed to be learnable in the time they give you. You will either be bored or forget and have to relearn it again. You cannot know the emphasis from the book. When i did it, the first 3 chapters were brushed over in a day. Since you don't have a teacher to guide you, you wouldn't know this and you would put as much effort into them as the rest.

Even for 3/4, its only really becomming one particular theme/area/a few chapters a head. That way you're one or two weeks ahead of the class. I think its probably the optimal thing to do imo.
